¹⁶ But if the raw flesh recovers and turns white again, then he shall come to the priest,

¹³ though formerly I was a blasphemer, ^(A)persecutor, and insolent opponent. But ^(B)I received mercy ^(C)because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, ¹⁴ and ^(D)the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the ^(E)faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ The saying is ^(F)trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus ^(G)came into the world to save sinners, ^(H)of whom I am the foremost.

^6 (A)as to zeal, ^(B)a persecutor of the church; ^(C)as to righteousness under the law,^[a] blameless. ⁷ But ^(D)whatever gain I had, ^(E)I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. ⁸ Indeed, I count everything as loss because of ^(F)the surpassing worth of ^(G)knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I ^(H)have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

¹⁴ And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely ^(A)zealous was I for ^(B)the traditions of my fathers. ¹⁵ But when he ^(C)who had set me apart ^(D)before I was born,^[a] and who ^(E)called me by his grace, ¹⁶ was pleased to reveal his Son to^[b] me, in order ^(F)that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone;^[c]

¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, ^(A)sold under sin. ¹⁵ For I do not understand my own actions. For ^(B)I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. ¹⁶ Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with ^(C)the law, that it is good. ¹⁷ So now ^(D)it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. ¹⁸ For I know that nothing good dwells ^(E)in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. ^19 (F)For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. ²⁰ Now if I do what I do not want, ^(G)it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.

²¹ So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. ²² For ^(H)I delight in the law of God, ^(I)in my inner being, ²³ but I see in my members ^(J)another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. ²⁴ Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from ^(K)this body of death?
