⁹ “You and your sons are not to drink wine^(A) or other fermented drink^(B) whenever you go into the tent of meeting, or you will die. This is a lasting ordinance^(C) for the generations to come,

³ not given to drunkenness,^(A) not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome,^(B) not a lover of money.^(C)

¹⁵ for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink,^(A) and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit^(B) even before he is born.^(C)

⁷ Since an overseer^(A) manages God’s household,^(B) he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.^(C)

¹⁸ Do not get drunk on wine,^(A) which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,^(B)

²¹ No priest is to drink wine when he enters the inner court.^(A)

⁸ In the same way, deacons^[a](A) are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine,^(B) and not pursuing dishonest gain.

³ they must abstain from wine^(A) and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar^(B) made from wine or other fermented drink. They must not drink grape juice or eat grapes^(C) or raisins.
