⁷ The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood^(A) on the fire.

¹² The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood^(A) and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat^(B) of the fellowship offerings^(C) on it. ¹³ The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.

⁹ When they reached the place God had told him about,^(A) Abraham built an altar^(B) there and arranged the wood^(C) on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar,^(D) on top of the wood.

¹⁰ “Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors,^(A) so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased^(B) with you,” says the Lord Almighty, “and I will accept^(C) no offering^(D) from your hands.

³¹ I also made provision for contributions of wood^(A) at designated times, and for the firstfruits.^(B)

Remember^(C) me with favor, my God.

The Dedication of the Temple^(A)

7 When Solomon finished praying, fire^(B) came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled^(C) the temple.^(D)

²⁶ David built an altar to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the Lord, and the Lord answered him with fire^(A) from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.

²⁴ Fire^(A) came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown.^(B)

The Death of Nadab and Abihu

10 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu^(C) took their censers,^(D) put fire in them^(E) and added incense;^(F) and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord,^(G) contrary to his command.^(H)
