For (A)it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

Christ’s Death Fulfills God’s Will(B)

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:

(C)“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,
But a body You have prepared for Me.
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—
In the volume of the book it is written of Me—
To do Your will, O God.’ ”

Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, [a]O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 (D)By that will we have been [b]sanctified (E)through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Christ’s Death Perfects the Sanctified

11 And every priest stands (F)ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 (G)But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down (H)at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting (I)till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being [c]sanctified.

15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before,

16 (J)“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, (K)“Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is [d]remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Hold Fast Your Confession

It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats(A) to take away sins.(B)

Therefore, when Christ came into the world,(C) he said:

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;(D)
with burnt offerings and sin offerings
    you were not pleased.
Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll(E)
I have come to do your will, my God.’”[a](F)

First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”(G)—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”(H) He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10 And by that will, we have been made holy(I) through the sacrifice of the body(J) of Jesus Christ once for all.(K)

11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices,(L) which can never take away sins.(M) 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins,(N) he sat down at the right hand of God,(O) 13 and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.(P) 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect(Q) forever those who are being made holy.(R)

15 The Holy Spirit also testifies(S) to us about this. First he says:

16 “This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”[b](T)

17 Then he adds:

“Their sins and lawless acts
    I will remember no more.”[c](U)

18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

A Call to Persevere in Faith

22 And according to the law almost all things are [a]purified with blood, and (A)without shedding of blood there is no [b]remission.

Greatness of Christ’s Sacrifice

23 Therefore it was necessary that (B)the copies of the things in the heavens should be [c]purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
