Restore Us to Yourself, O Lord

(A)Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us;
    look, and see (B)our disgrace!
(C)Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers,
    our homes to foreigners.
We have become orphans, fatherless;
    our mothers are like widows.
We must pay for the water we drink;
    the wood we get must be bought.
(D)Our pursuers are at our necks;
    we are weary; we are given no rest.
We have given the hand to (E)Egypt, and to (F)Assyria,
    to get bread enough.
Our fathers sinned, and are no more;
    (G)and we bear their iniquities.
(H)Slaves rule over us;
    there is none to deliver us from their hand.
(I)We get our bread at the peril of our lives,
    because of the sword in the wilderness.
10 (J)Our skin is hot as an oven
    with (K)the burning heat of famine.
11 Women are raped in Zion,
    young women in the towns of Judah.
12 (L)Princes are hung up by their hands;
    (M)no respect is shown to the elders.
13 Young men are compelled to (N)grind at the mill,
    and boys stagger (O)under loads of wood.
14 (P)The old men have left the city gate,
    the young men (Q)their music.
15 (R)The joy of our hearts has ceased;
    (S)our dancing has been turned to mourning.
16 (T)The crown has fallen from our head;
    woe to us, for we have sinned!
17 For this (U)our heart has become sick,
    for these things (V)our eyes have grown dim,
18 for Mount Zion which lies desolate;
    (W)jackals prowl over it.
19 (X)But you, O Lord, reign forever;
    your throne endures to all generations.
20 (Y)Why do you forget us forever,
    why do you forsake us for so many days?
21 (Z)Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may be restored!
    Renew our days as of old—
22 (AA)unless you have utterly rejected us,
    and you remain exceedingly angry with us.

Oración del pueblo afligido

Acuérdate, oh Jehová, de lo que nos ha sucedido;

Mira, y ve nuestro oprobio.

Nuestra heredad ha pasado a extraños,

Nuestras casas a forasteros.

Huérfanos somos sin padre;

Nuestras madres son como viudas.

Nuestra agua bebemos por dinero;

Compramos nuestra leña por precio.

Padecemos persecución sobre nosotros;

Nuestros padres pecaron, y han muerto;

Y nosotros llevamos su castigo.

Siervos se enseñorearon de nosotros;

12 A los príncipes colgaron de las manos;

15 Cesó el gozo de nuestro corazón;

Nuestra danza se cambió en luto.

16 Cayó la corona de nuestra cabeza;

¡Ay ahora de nosotros! porque pecamos.

17 Por esto fue entristecido nuestro corazón,

Por esto se entenebrecieron nuestros ojos,

18 Por el monte de Sion que está asolado;

Zorras andan por él.

19 Mas tú, Jehová, permanecerás para siempre;

Tu trono de generación en generación.

20 ¿Por qué te olvidas completamente de nosotros,

Y nos abandonas tan largo tiempo?

21 Vuélvenos, oh Jehová, a ti, y nos volveremos;

Renueva nuestros días como al principio.

22 Porque nos has desechado;

Te has airado contra nosotros en gran manera.

16 冠冕從我們的頭上掉落;

A Prayer for Deliverance

Lord, remember what has happened to us.
    Pay attention, and look at our shame!

Our inheritance has[a] been turned over to strangers,
    and our homes to foreigners.

We are now orphans—without fathers—
    and our mothers are like widows.

We pay to drink our own water,
    and our own wood is sold to us at high price.

Our pursuers breathe down[b] our necks;
    we are weary, but there is no rest for us.

We made a deal with the Egyptians and the Assyrians
    for the price of food.[c]

Our ancestors sinned and no longer exist
    yet we continue to bear the consequences of their sin.

Slaves rule over us,
    and no one delivers us from their control.[d]

We risk our lives to obtain our food,
    facing death[e] in the desert.

10 Our skin blisters[f] as from an oven,
    due to ravaging blasts of the famine.

11 They have raped women in Zion,
    young women[g] in the towns of Judah.

12 Princes they have hung by their hands;
    elders[h] they have disrespected.

13 Our[i] young men must grind grain with a millstone;
    our[j] youths stumble under the weight of wood.

14 Our[k] elders have ceased ruling[l] at the gate;
    our[m] young men have abandoned[n] their music.

15 The joy of our hearts has ceased,
    and our dancing has turned into dirges.

16 The crown has fallen from our head—
    woe to us, because we have sinned!

17 This is why our hearts faint,
    and why our eyes grow dim:
18 Because Mount Zion is desolate;
    foxes roam around it.

19 You, Lord, are forever—
    your throne endures from generation to generation.

20 So why have you completely forgotten us,
    forsaking us for so long?

21 Restore us to yourself, Lord,
    so that we may return.
Renew our days as before,
22 unless you have utterly rejected us
        and are angry with us without limit.
