¹⁸ because of Mount Zion, which lies desolate;
    jackals prowl over it.

¹² Therefore because of you
    Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
    and the mountain of the temple a wooded height.^(A)

¹¹ I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins,
    a lair of jackals,
and I will make the towns of Judah a desolation,
    without inhabitant.^(A)

¹³ for the soil of my people
    growing up in thorns and briers,
yes, for all the joyous houses
    in the jubilant city.^(A)
14 For the palace will be forsaken,
    the populous city deserted;
the hill and the watchtower
    will become dens forever,
the joy of wild asses,
    a pasture for flocks;^(B)

² Remember your congregation, which you acquired long ago,
    which you redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage.
    Remember Mount Zion, where you came to dwell.^(A)
3 Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins;
    the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary.^(B)
