Lamentations 4:20-22

²⁰The Lord’s appointed king, who was our very breath,
was caught in their traps.
We had said about him, “We will be protected by him
among the nations.”

²¹Be happy and glad, people of Edom,
you who live in the land of Uz.
But the Lord’s anger is like a cup of wine that you also will have to drink.
Then you will get drunk on it and make yourselves naked.

²²Your punishment is complete, Jerusalem.
He will not keep you in captivity any longer.
But the Lord will punish your wrongs, people of Edom.
He will uncover your sins.

We thought that under his shadow^(C)
we would live among the nations.

²¹Rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom,
you who live in the land of Uz.^(D)
But to you also the cup^(E) will be passed;
you will be drunk and stripped naked.^(F)

²²Your punishment will end, Daughter Zion;^(G)
he will not prolong your exile.
But he will punish your sin, Daughter Edom,
and expose your wickedness.^(H)
