Kaph

11 All her people are sighing, (A)seeking bread;
They have given their desirable things for food
To (B)restore their souls.
“See, O Yahweh, and look,
For I am (C)despised.”

Lamedh

12 “Is (D)it nothing to all you who pass this way?
Look and see if there is any [a]pain like my [b]pain
Which was dealt severely to me,
Which (E)Yahweh grieved me with on the day of His (F)burning anger.

Mem

13 From on high He sent fire into my (G)bones,
And it dominated them.
He has spread a (H)net for my feet;
He has turned me back;
He has made me (I)desolate,
[c]Faint all day long.

Nun

14 The (J)yoke of my transgressions is bound;
By His hand they are knit together.
They have (K)come upon my neck;
He has made my strength stumble.
The Lord (L)has given me into the hands
Of those against whom I am not able to stand.

Samekh

15 The (M)Lord has rejected all my mighty men
In my midst;
He has called an appointed time against me
To break my (N)young men;
The Lord has (O)trodden as in a wine press
The virgin daughter of Judah.

Ayin

16 For these things I (P)am weeping;
[d]My eyes run down with water;
Because far from me is a (Q)comforter,
One who restores my soul.
My children are desolate
Because the enemy has prevailed.”

11 Her people groan as they search for bread.
    They have sold their treasures for food to stay alive.
“O Lord, look,” she mourns,
    “and see how I am despised.

12 “Does it mean nothing to you, all you who pass by?
    Look around and see if there is any suffering like mine,
which the Lord brought on me
    when he erupted in fierce anger.

13 “He has sent fire from heaven that burns in my bones.
    He has placed a trap in my path and turned me back.
He has left me devastated,
    racked with sickness all day long.

14 “He wove my sins into ropes
    to hitch me to a yoke of captivity.
The Lord sapped my strength and turned me over to my enemies;
    I am helpless in their hands.

15 “The Lord has treated my mighty men
    with contempt.
At his command a great army has come
    to crush my young warriors.
The Lord has trampled his beloved city[a]
    like grapes are trampled in a winepress.

16 “For all these things I weep;
    tears flow down my cheeks.
No one is here to comfort me;
    any who might encourage me are far away.
My children have no future,
    for the enemy has conquered us.”
