² She ^(A)weeps bitterly in the night,
And her tears are on her cheeks;
She has none to comfort her
Among all her ^(B)lovers.
All her friends have ^(C)dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies.

^3 (D)Judah has gone into exile because of affliction
And because of great slavery;
She sits ^(E)among the nations,
But she has found no rest;
All ^(F)her pursuers have overtaken her
In the midst of ^[a]distress.

⁴ The roads ^[b]of Zion are in mourning
Because ^(G)no one comes to the appointed times.
All her gates are ^(H)desolate;
Her priests are sighing,
Her ^(I)virgins are grieving,
And she herself ^[c]is ^(J)bitter.
