Lamentations 3:16-25

New King James Version

¹⁶He has also broken my teeth ^(A)with gravel,
And ^[a]covered me with ashes.
¹⁷You have moved my soul far from peace;
I have forgotten ^[b]prosperity.
¹⁸^(B)And I said, “My strength and my hope
Have perished from the Lord.”

¹⁹Remember my affliction and roaming,
^(C)The wormwood and the ^[c]gall.
²⁰My soul still remembers
And ^[d]sinks within me.
²¹This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have ^(D)hope.

²²^(E)Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions ^(F)fail not.
²³They are new ^(G)every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
²⁴“The Lord is my ^(H)portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I ^(I)hope in Him!”

²⁵The Lord is good to those who ^(J)wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.

¹⁶He has broken my teeth with gravel;^(A)
    he has trampled me in the dust.^(B)
¹⁷I have been deprived of peace;
    I have forgotten what prosperity is.
¹⁸So I say, “My splendor is gone
    and all that I had hoped from the Lord.”^(C)

¹⁹I remember my affliction and my wandering,
    the bitterness^(D) and the gall.^(E)
²⁰I well remember them,
    and my soul is downcast^(F) within me.^(G)
²¹Yet this I call to mind
    and therefore I have hope:

²²Because of the Lord’s great love^(H) we are not consumed,^(I)
    for his compassions never fail.^(J)
²³They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.^(K)
²⁴I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;^(L)
    therefore I will wait for him.”
