5 Ó Senhor, lembra-te de tudo o que nos sobreveio! Vê quantas tristezas temos de aguentar!
2 Os nossos lares, a nossa nação, estão cheios de estrangeiros.
3 Somos órfãos; os nossos pais morreram; as nossas mães estão viúvas.
4 Temos de pagar até a água que bebemos; a lenha é-nos vendida a preços astronómicos.
5 Temos de dobrar os pescoços sob os pés daqueles que nos venceram; o nosso quinhão agora é executar trabalhos intermináveis.
6 Vemo-nos na contingência de ter de pedir pão e estender as mãos aos egípcios e também aos assírios.
7 Os nossos antepassados pecaram, mas morreram antes que a mão do julgamento caísse sobre eles. Fomos nós, afinal, que tivemos de suportar aquilo que eles também mereciam!
8 Os nossos antigos servos tornaram-se os nossos senhores e ninguém ficou para nos salvar.
9 Fomos para o deserto para caçar, à procura de alimento, arriscando ser mortos pelos inimigos.
10 A fome faz-nos arder em febre; até a pele nos abrasa como um forno.
11 Violaram as mulheres de Sião e as raparigas das cidades de Judá.
12 Os nossos nobres foram pendurados pelas mãos e até os velhos foram desrespeitados, sem consideração pelos seus cabelos brancos.
13 Levaram os moços para os obrigarem a moer o trigo e as criancinhas para as carregarem com fardos pesados, sob os quais cambaleiam sem forças.
14 Os anciãos já não se sentam mais à entrada da cidade, junto aos portais, e os jovens já não cantam.
15 Acabou tudo o que nos dava tanta alegria aos corações; os nossos bailados tornaram-se danças de carpideiras.
16 Foi-se a nossa glória! Caiu-nos da cabeça a coroa, que era o nosso privilégio, o nosso orgulho! Ai de nós, porque pecámos!
17 Temos os corações oprimidos e amargurados; os nossos olhos incham e vamos perdendo a vista.
18 O monte Sião está deserto; foi abandonado por todos, menos pelos chacais que fazem a toca entre as ruínas.
19 Ó Senhor, mas tu permaneces eternamente o mesmo! O teu trono subsiste de geração em geração!
20 Porque haverias de nos esquecer para sempre? Será que nos vais desamparar por um tempo sem fim?
21 Converte-nos, Senhor, faz-nos voltar de novo para ti! É essa a nossa esperança! Faz-nos viver de novo os bons dias antigos!
22 Será que nos rejeitaste efetivamente para sempre? Será que a tua cólera contra nós não vai ter um termo?

Restore Us to Yourself, O Lord
5 (A)Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us;
look, and see (B)our disgrace!
2 (C)Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers,
our homes to foreigners.
3 We have become orphans, fatherless;
our mothers are like widows.
4 We must pay for the water we drink;
the wood we get must be bought.
5 (D)Our pursuers are at our necks;
we are weary; we are given no rest.
6 We have given the hand to (E)Egypt, and to (F)Assyria,
to get bread enough.
7 Our fathers sinned, and are no more;
(G)and we bear their iniquities.
8 (H)Slaves rule over us;
there is none to deliver us from their hand.
9 (I)We get our bread at the peril of our lives,
because of the sword in the wilderness.
10 (J)Our skin is hot as an oven
with (K)the burning heat of famine.
11 Women are raped in Zion,
young women in the towns of Judah.
12 (L)Princes are hung up by their hands;
(M)no respect is shown to the elders.
13 Young men are compelled to (N)grind at the mill,
and boys stagger (O)under loads of wood.
14 (P)The old men have left the city gate,
the young men (Q)their music.
15 (R)The joy of our hearts has ceased;
(S)our dancing has been turned to mourning.
16 (T)The crown has fallen from our head;
woe to us, for we have sinned!
17 For this (U)our heart has become sick,
for these things (V)our eyes have grown dim,
18 for Mount Zion which lies desolate;
(W)jackals prowl over it.
19 (X)But you, O Lord, reign forever;
your throne endures to all generations.
20 (Y)Why do you forget us forever,
why do you forsake us for so many days?
21 (Z)Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we may be restored!
Renew our days as of old—
22 (AA)unless you have utterly rejected us,
and you remain exceedingly angry with us.

6 We submitted to Egypt and Assyria(K)
to get enough bread.
7 Our ancestors(L) sinned and are no more,
and we bear their punishment.(M)

and there is no one to free us from their hands.(O)
9 We get our bread at the risk of our lives
because of the sword in the desert.
10 Our skin is hot as an oven,
feverish from hunger.(P)
11 Women have been violated(Q) in Zion,
and virgins in the towns of Judah.
12 Princes have been hung up by their hands;
elders(R) are shown no respect.(S)
13 Young men toil at the millstones;
boys stagger under loads of wood.
14 The elders are gone from the city gate;

15 Joy is gone from our hearts;
