³² but, though he ^(A)cause grief, ^(B)he will have compassion
    ^(C)according to the abundance of his steadfast love;

³⁸ Yet he, being ^(A)compassionate,
    ^(B)atoned for their iniquity
    and did not destroy them;
he restrained his anger often
    and did not stir up all his wrath.

^43 (A)Many times he delivered them,
    but they were rebellious in their ^(B)purposes
    and were ^(C)brought low through their iniquity.

^5 (A)For his anger is but for a moment,
    and ^(B)his favor is for a lifetime.^[a]
(C)Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but ^(D)joy comes with the morning.

^20 (A)Is Ephraim my dear son?
    ^(B)Is he my darling child?
For as often as I speak against him,
    I do remember him still.
^(C)Therefore my heart^[a] yearns for him;
    I will surely have mercy on him,
declares the Lord.

¹¹ For ^(A)as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his ^(B)steadfast love toward ^(C)those who fear him;
