³ indeed, he has turned his hand against me^(A)
    again and again, all day long.

⁴ Like an enemy he has strung his bow;^(A)
    his right hand is ready.
Like a foe he has slain
    all who were pleasing to the eye;^(B)
he has poured out his wrath^(C) like fire^(D)
    on the tent^(E) of Daughter Zion.

⁵ The Lord is like an enemy;^(F)
    he has swallowed up Israel.
He has swallowed up all her palaces
    and destroyed her strongholds.^(G)
He has multiplied mourning and lamentation^(H)
    for Daughter Judah.^(I)

⁶ He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden;
    he has destroyed^(J) his place of meeting.^(K)
The Lord has made Zion forget
    her appointed festivals and her Sabbaths;^(L)
in his fierce anger he has spurned
    both king and priest.^(M)

⁷ The Lord has rejected his altar
    and abandoned his sanctuary.^(N)
He has given the walls of her palaces^(O)
    into the hands of the enemy;
they have raised a shout in the house of the Lord
    as on the day of an appointed festival.^(P)

²⁵ Therefore the Lord’s anger^(A) burns against his people;
    his hand is raised and he strikes them down.
The mountains shake,^(B)
    and the dead bodies^(C) are like refuse^(D) in the streets.^(E)

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,^(F)
    his hand is still upraised.^(G)

²⁵ I will turn my hand against you;^[a](A)
    I will thoroughly purge^(B) away your dross^(C)
    and remove all your impurities.^(D)

²¹ if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,^(A)
    knowing that I had influence in court,^(B)
