8 Now concerning the sacrifice to an elil (idol in avodah zarah, idol worship), we know that "we all possess da’as (knowledge)." But da’as puffs up (with ga’avah), but ahavah (agape 14:1) builds up.
2 If anyone presumes he has da’as of anything, he does not yet have da’as of the necessary da’as.
3 But if a person has Ahavas Hashem, Hashem has da’as of that person. [YIRMEYAH 1:5]
4 Now concerning the eating of the okhel (food) at the mizbe’ach of avodah zarah which is sacrificed to an elil (idol), we have da’as that an elil is nothing in the world, and that there is no G-d but ECHAD (DEVARIM 4:35, 39; 6:4).
5 For even if there are [in popular tradition] so-called "g-ds," whether in Shomayim or on ha’aretz, even as there are so-called "g-ds" many and "l-rds" many,
6 Yet in fact for us we have da’as that there is ADONOI ECHAD ("L-rd is One " DEVARIM 6:4), Hashem AV ECHAD L’CHULLANU ("One Father of us all” MALACHI 2:10), from whom are all things, and we exist for Hashem, and there is Adon Echad [MALACHI 3:1], Moshiach Yehoshua [ZECHARYAH 3:8; 6:11-12], through whom are all things and we through him.
7 However, not kol Bnei Adam have this da’as (knowledge). Some are so accustomed to the elil (idol) until now that when they eat, they think of the okhel (food) as being sacrificed to the elil in avodah zarah, and their matzpun (conscience), being weak, is made to be tameh (defiled).
8 But okhel (food) will not usher us into the presence of Hashem; neither are we falling short if we do not eat okhel, nor are we better if we eat.
9 But beware lest somehow your cherut (freedom) becomes a michshol (stumbling block) to the weak ones.
10 For if anyone sees you, the one having da’as (knowledge), eating in the temple of an elil, will not the matzpun of him be strengthened so as to eat the okhel sacrificed to an elil (idol) at the mizbe’ach of avodah zarah?
11 For the one being weak [in emunah] is being destroyed by your "da’as,” the Ach b’Moshiach for whom Moshiach died.
12 And thus by sinning against the Achim b’Moshiach and wounding their weak matzpunim (consciences), you commit averos against Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.
13 Therefore, if okhel causes my Ach b’Moshiach to trip on a michshol, I should never eat meat again, lest I cause my Ach b’Moshiach to stumble.

About Food Offered to Idols
8 Now ·I will write about [or concerning your question about; L concerning; see 7:1; 12:1; 16:1] meat that is sacrificed to idols. We know that “we all have knowledge [C probably a slogan used by the Corinthians; see 6:12, 13; 7:1; 8:4; 10:23].” Knowledge puffs you up with pride, but love builds up. 2 If you think you know something, you do not yet know as ·well as you should [L you ought to know]. 3 But if any person loves God, that person is known by God.
4 So ·this is what I say about [L concerning] eating meat sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is really nothing in the world, and we know there is ·only one God [no God but one; Deut. 4:35, 39; C these may be other slogans the church was using to justify their behavior; see v. 1]. 5 Even though there are things called gods, in heaven or on earth (and there are many “gods” and “lords”), 6 for us there is only one God—the Father. All things came from him, and we live for him. And there is only one Lord—Jesus Christ. All things were made through him, and we also ·were made [exist; live] through him.
7 But not all people know this. Some people are still so used to idols that when they eat meat, they still think of it as being sacrificed to an idol. Because their conscience is weak, when they eat it, ·they feel guilty [L their conscience is defiled]. 8 But food will not ·bring us closer [make us acceptable] to God. Refusing to eat does not make us ·less pleasing to God [any worse; L lacking], and eating does not make us ·better in God’s sight [any better; L abounding].
9 But be careful that ·your freedom [this right/authority of yours] does not ·cause those who are weak in faith to fall into sin [L become a stumbling block to the weak]. 10 Suppose one of you who has knowledge eats in an idol’s temple. Someone who ·is weak in faith [or has a weak conscience] might see you eating there and be ·encouraged [enboldened] to eat meat sacrificed to idols ·while thinking it is wrong to do so [or as a result of his weak conscience]. 11 This weak ·believer [L brother] for whom Christ died is ·ruined [destroyed] because of your “knowledge.” 12 When you sin against your brothers and sisters in Christ like this and ·cause them to do what they feel is wrong [L wound their weak conscience], you are also sinning against Christ. 13 So if the food I eat causes them to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again so that I will not cause any of them to ·sin [stumble; fall into sin].

4 जहाँ तक मूर्तियों को चढ़ाई हुई वस्तुओं को खाने का प्रश्न है, हम इस बात को भली-भांति जानते हैं कि सारे संसार में कहीं भी मूर्तियों में परमेश्वर नहीं है तथा एक के अतिरिक्त और कोई परमेश्वर नहीं है. 5 यद्यपि आकाश और पृथ्वी पर अनेक तथाकथित देवता हैं, जैसे कि अनेक देवता और अनेकों प्रभु भी हैं 6 किन्तु हमारे लिए तो परमेश्वर मात्र एक ही हैं—वह पिता—जिनमें हम सब सृष्ट हैं, और हम उसी के लिए हैं. प्रभु एक ही हैं—मसीह येशु—इन्हीं के द्वारा सब कुछ है, इन्हीं के द्वारा हम हैं.

7 किन्तु सभी को यह बात मालूम नहीं हैं. कुछ व्यक्ति ऐसे हैं, जो अब तक मूर्तियों से जुड़े हैं तथा वे इस भोजन को मूर्तियों को भेंट किया हुआ भोजन मानते हुए खाते हैं. उनका कमज़ोर विवेक अशुद्ध हो गया है. 8 हमें परमेश्वर के पास ले जाने में भोजन का कोई योगदान नहीं होता—भोजन से न तो कोई हानि सम्भव है और न ही कोई लाभ.
9 किन्तु सावधान रहना कि तुम्हारी यह स्वतंत्रता निर्बलों के लिए ठोकर का कारण न बने. 10 यदि किसी का विवेक कमज़ोर है और वह तुम जैसे ज्ञानी व्यक्ति को मूर्ति के मन्दिर में भोजन करते देख ले तो क्या उसे भी मूर्ति को चढ़ाई हुई वस्तुएं खाने का साहस न मिलेगा? 11 इसमें तुम्हारा ज्ञानी होना उसके विनाश का कारण हो गया, जिसके लिए मसीह येशु ने प्राण दिया. 12 इस प्रकार विश्वासियों के विरुद्ध पाप करने तथा उनके विवेक को, जो कमज़ोर हैं, चोट पहुंचाने के द्वारा तुम मसीह येशु के विरुद्ध पाप करते हो. 13 इसलिए यदि भोजन किसी के लिए ठोकर का कारण बनता है तो मैं माँस का भोजन कभी न करूँगा कि मैं विश्वासियों के लिए ठोकर का कारण न बनूँ.

Concerning Food Sacrificed to Idols
8 Now about food sacrificed to idols:(A) We know that “We all possess knowledge.”(B) But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. 2 Those who think they know something(C) do not yet know as they ought to know.(D) 3 But whoever loves God is known by God.[a](E)
4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols:(F) We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world”(G) and that “There is no God but one.”(H) 5 For even if there are so-called gods,(I) whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), 6 yet for us there is but one God,(J) the Father,(K) from whom all things came(L) and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord,(M) Jesus Christ, through whom all things came(N) and through whom we live.
7 But not everyone possesses this knowledge.(O) Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak,(P) it is defiled. 8 But food does not bring us near to God;(Q) we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block(R) to the weak.(S) 10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?(T) 11 So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed(U) by your knowledge. 12 When you sin against them(V) in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.(W) 13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.(X)
