La canción de Débora
5 Entonces Débora y Barac cantaron esta canción:
2 «Por cuanto condujo valientemente a los caudillos de Israel, y el pueblo alegremente lo siguió, alaben al Señor.
3 »Oigan bien, reyes y príncipes, porque cantaré al Señor el Dios de Israel.
4 »Cuando nos hiciste salir de Seír, oh Señor, y nos guiaste por los campos de Edom, la tierra tembló y el cielo derramó su lluvia. 5 Sí, aun el monte Sinaí tembló ante la presencia del Dios de Israel.
6 »En los días de Samgar y de Jael, los principales caminos quedaron desiertos.
Los viajeros usaban senderos estrechos y tortuosos.
7 Los pueblos de Israel quedaron abandonados, hasta que yo, Débora, surgí como una madre para Israel.
8 Cuando Israel buscó nuevos dioses, todo se desplomó, nuestros amos no nos dejaban tener ni escudo ni espada; entre los cuarenta mil valientes de Israel ni un arma podía ser hallada.
9 ¡Cuánto me regocijo en los caudillos de Israel que se ofrecieron voluntariamente! ¡Alaben al Señor!
10 »Que todo Israel, ricos y pobres, se unan en sus alabanzas: los que cabalgan en burros blancos y se sientan en ricas alfombras y los que son pobres y deben caminar.
11 Canten los pastores junto al pozo de agua. Canten por toda la ciudad. Cuenten allí las justicias del Señor. Lo que él hizo por los campesinos de Israel.
12 »¡Despierta, oh Débora, y canta! ¡Levántate, oh Barac, oh hijo de Abinoam, y lleva tus cautivos!
13 »Desde el monte Tabor descendió el noble remanente. El pueblo del Señor marchó contra los poderosos.
14 Vinieron de Efraín y Benjamín, de Maquir y Zabulón.
15 Hacia el valle descendieron los príncipes de Isacar con Débora y Barac. Ante el mandato de Dios se precipitaron hacia el valle. Pero la tribu de Rubén no fue.
16 ¿Por qué te sentaste en casa entre los rediles, a oír los balidos de tus ovejas? Sí, la tribu de Rubén tiene la conciencia intranquila.
17 ¿Por qué Galaad se quedó al otro lado del Jordán; y por qué Dan se quedó con sus naves, y por qué Aser se sentó inconmovible junto a las costas, reposando en sus bahías?
18 Pero las tribus de Zabulón y Neftalí expusieron sus vidas en el campo de batalla.
19 »Los reyes de Canaán pelearon en Tanac, junto a los manantiales de Meguido, pero no obtuvieron la victoria.
20 Las mismas estrellas del cielo pelearon contra Sísara.
21 El arroyo de Cisón los barrió. ¡Adelante, oh alma mía, con fortaleza!
22 Escucha las pisadas de los caballos de los enemigos. Escucha el galopar de los valientes.
23 »Pero el ángel del Señor lanzó una maldición sobre Meroz. “Que el Señor los castigue con dureza”, dijo, “porque no vinieron a ayudar al Señor contra sus enemigos”.
24 »¡Bendita sea Jael, la esposa de Héber el quenita! ¡Sea ella bendita por sobre todas las amas de casa!
25 Sísara pidió agua, y ella le dio leche en una hermosa taza.
26 Entonces tomó una estaca y un mazo y partió las sienes de Sísara, aplastando su cabeza. Traspasó con la estaca su cabeza.
27 Y él quedó muerto entre sus piernas.
28 La madre de Sísara miraba por la ventana esperando su regreso:
“¿Por qué su carro demora tanto en llegar?
¿Por qué no oímos el sonido de sus ruedas?”.
29 Sus doncellas le respondían y ella misma también lo decía:
30 “Hay mucho botín que distribuir, y eso lleva tiempo.
Cada hombre recibe una o dos jovencitas, y Sísara recibirá las vestiduras de colores y traerá a su hogar muchos obsequios para mí”.
31 »Oh Señor, que todos tus enemigos perezcan como Sísara; pero los que aman al Señor resplandezcan como el sol a mediodía».
Después de esto hubo paz en el país durante cuarenta años.

Cántico de Débora y de Barac
5 Aquel día cantó Débora con Barac hijo de Abinoam, diciendo:
2 Por haberse puesto al frente los caudillos en Israel,
Por haberse ofrecido voluntariamente el pueblo,
Load a Jehová.
3 Oíd, reyes; escuchad, oh príncipes;
Yo cantaré a Jehová,
Cantaré salmos a Jehová, el Dios de Israel.
4 Cuando saliste de Seir, oh Jehová,
Cuando te marchaste de los campos de Edom,
La tierra tembló, y los cielos destilaron,
Y las nubes gotearon aguas.
5 Los montes temblaron delante de Jehová,
Aquel Sinaí, delante de Jehová Dios de Israel.(A)
6 En los días de Samgar hijo de Anat,
En los días de Jael, quedaron abandonados los caminos,
Y los que andaban por las sendas se apartaban por senderos torcidos.
7 Las aldeas quedaron abandonadas en Israel, habían decaído,
Hasta que yo Débora me levanté,
Me levanté como madre en Israel.
8 Cuando escogían nuevos dioses,
La guerra estaba a las puertas;
¿Se veía escudo o lanza
Entre cuarenta mil en Israel?
9 Mi corazón es para vosotros, jefes de Israel,
Para los que voluntariamente os ofrecisteis entre el pueblo.
Load a Jehová.
10 Vosotros los que cabalgáis en asnas blancas,
Los que presidís en juicio,
Y vosotros los que viajáis, hablad.
11 Lejos del ruido de los arqueros, en los abrevaderos,
Allí repetirán los triunfos de Jehová,
Los triunfos de sus aldeas en Israel;
Entonces marchará hacia las puertas el pueblo de Jehová.
12 Despierta, despierta, Débora;
Despierta, despierta, entona cántico.
Levántate, Barac, y lleva tus cautivos, hijo de Abinoam.
13 Entonces marchó el resto de los nobles;
El pueblo de Jehová marchó por él en contra de los poderosos.
14 De Efraín vinieron los radicados en Amalec,
En pos de ti, Benjamín, entre tus pueblos;
De Maquir descendieron príncipes,
Y de Zabulón los que tenían vara de mando.
15 Caudillos también de Isacar fueron con Débora;
Y como Barac, también Isacar
Se precipitó a pie en el valle.
Entre las familias de Rubén
Hubo grandes resoluciones del corazón.
16 ¿Por qué te quedaste entre los rediles,
Para oír los balidos de los rebaños?
Entre las familias de Rubén
Hubo grandes propósitos del corazón.
17 Galaad se quedó al otro lado del Jordán;
Y Dan, ¿por qué se estuvo junto a las naves?
Se mantuvo Aser a la ribera del mar,
Y se quedó en sus puertos.
18 El pueblo de Zabulón expuso su vida a la muerte,
Y Neftalí en las alturas del campo.
19 Vinieron reyes y pelearon;
Entonces pelearon los reyes de Canaán,
En Taanac, junto a las aguas de Meguido,
Mas no llevaron ganancia alguna de dinero.
20 Desde los cielos pelearon las estrellas;
Desde sus órbitas pelearon contra Sísara.
21 Los barrió el torrente de Cisón,
El antiguo torrente, el torrente de Cisón.
Marcha, oh alma mía, con poder.
22 Entonces resonaron los cascos de los caballos
Por el galopar, por el galopar de sus valientes.
23 Maldecid a Meroz, dijo el ángel de Jehová;
Maldecid severamente a sus moradores,
Porque no vinieron al socorro de Jehová,
Al socorro de Jehová contra los fuertes.
24 Bendita sea entre las mujeres Jael,
Mujer de Heber ceneo;
Sobre las mujeres bendita sea en la tienda.
25 Él pidió agua, y ella le dio leche;
En tazón de nobles le presentó crema.
26 Tendió su mano a la estaca,
Y su diestra al mazo de trabajadores,
Y golpeó a Sísara; hirió su cabeza,
Y le horadó, y atravesó sus sienes.
27 Cayó encorvado entre sus pies, quedó tendido;
Entre sus pies cayó encorvado;
Donde se encorvó, allí cayó muerto.
28 La madre de Sísara se asoma a la ventana,
Y por entre las celosías a voces dice:
¿Por qué tarda su carro en venir?
¿Por qué las ruedas de sus carros se detienen?
29 Las más avisadas de sus damas le respondían,
Y aun ella se respondía a sí misma:
30 ¿No han hallado botín, y lo están repartiendo?
A cada uno una doncella, o dos;
Las vestiduras de colores para Sísara,
Las vestiduras bordadas de colores;
La ropa de color bordada de ambos lados, para los jefes de los que tomaron el botín.
31 Así perezcan todos tus enemigos, oh Jehová;
Mas los que te aman, sean como el sol cuando sale en su fuerza.
Y la tierra reposó cuarenta años.

(C)When the people [b]willingly offer themselves,
Bless the Lord!
3 “Hear,(D) O kings! Give ear, O princes!
I, even (E)I, will sing to the Lord;
I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.
4 “Lord, (F)when You went out from Seir,
When You marched from (G)the field of Edom,
The earth trembled and the heavens poured,
The clouds also poured water;
5 (H)The mountains [c]gushed before the Lord,
(I)This Sinai, before the Lord God of Israel.
6 “In the days of (J)Shamgar, son of Anath,
In the days of (K)Jael,
(L)The highways were deserted,
And the travelers walked along the byways.
7 Village life ceased, it ceased in Israel,
Until I, Deborah, arose,
Arose a mother in Israel.
8 They chose (M)new gods;
Then there was war in the gates;
Not a shield or spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel.
9 My heart is with the rulers of Israel
Who offered themselves willingly with the people.

10 “Speak, you who ride on white (N)donkeys,
Who sit in judges’ attire,
And who walk along the road.
11 Far from the noise of the archers, among the watering places,
There they shall recount the righteous acts of the Lord,
The righteous acts for His villagers in Israel;
Then the people of the Lord shall go down to the gates.
12 “Awake,(O) awake, Deborah!
Awake, awake, sing a song!
Arise, Barak, and lead your captives away,
O son of Abinoam!
13 “Then the survivors came down, the people against the nobles;
The Lord came down for me against the mighty.
14 From Ephraim were those whose roots were in (P)Amalek.
After you, Benjamin, with your peoples,
From Machir rulers came down,
And from Zebulun those who bear the recruiter’s staff.
15 And [d]the princes of Issachar were with Deborah;
As Issachar, so was Barak
Sent into the valley [e]under his command;
Among the divisions of Reuben
There were great resolves of heart.
16 Why did you sit among the sheepfolds,
To hear the pipings for the flocks?
The divisions of Reuben have great searchings of heart.
17 (Q)Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan,
And why did Dan remain [f]on ships?
(R)Asher continued at the seashore,
And stayed by his inlets.
18 (S)Zebulun is a people who jeopardized their lives to the point of death,
Naphtali also, on the heights of the battlefield.
19 “The kings came and fought,
Then the kings of Canaan fought
In (T)Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo;
They took no spoils of silver.
20 They fought from the heavens;
The stars from their courses fought against Sisera.
21 (U)The torrent of Kishon swept them away,
That ancient torrent, the torrent of Kishon.
O my soul, march on in strength!
22 Then the horses’ hooves pounded,
The galloping, galloping of his steeds.
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the [g]angel of the Lord,
‘Curse its inhabitants bitterly,
Because they did not come to the help of the Lord,
To the help of the Lord against the mighty.’
24 “Most blessed among women is Jael,
The wife of Heber the Kenite;
(V)Blessed is she among women in tents.
25 He asked for water, she gave milk;
She brought out cream in a lordly bowl.
26 She stretched her hand to the tent peg,
Her right hand to the workmen’s hammer;
She pounded Sisera, she pierced his head,
She split and struck through his temple.
27 At her feet he sank, he fell, he lay still;
At her feet he sank, he fell;
Where he sank, there he fell (W)dead.
28 “The mother of Sisera looked through the window,
And cried out through the lattice,
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why tarries the clatter of his chariots?’
29 Her wisest [h]ladies answered her,
Yes, she [i]answered herself,
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoil:
To every man a girl or two;
For Sisera, plunder of dyed garments,
Plunder of garments embroidered and dyed,
Two pieces of dyed embroidery for the neck of the looter?’
31 “Thus let all Your enemies (X)perish, O Lord!
But let those who love Him be (Y)like the (Z)sun
When it comes out in full (AA)strength.”
So the land had rest for forty years.

5 On that day Deborah(A) and Barak son of Abinoam(B) sang this song:(C)
2 “When the princes in Israel take the lead,
when the people willingly offer(D) themselves—
praise the Lord!(E)
3 “Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers!
I, even I, will sing to[a] the Lord;(F)
I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.(G)
4 “When you, Lord, went out(H) from Seir,(I)
when you marched from the land of Edom,
the earth shook,(J) the heavens poured,
the clouds poured down water.(K)
5 The mountains quaked(L) before the Lord, the One of Sinai,
before the Lord, the God of Israel.
6 “In the days of Shamgar son of Anath,(M)
in the days of Jael,(N) the highways(O) were abandoned;
travelers took to winding paths.(P)
7 Villagers in Israel would not fight;
they held back until I, Deborah,(Q) arose,
until I arose, a mother in Israel.
8 God chose new leaders(R)
when war came to the city gates,(S)
but not a shield or spear(T) was seen
among forty thousand in Israel.
9 My heart is with Israel’s princes,
with the willing volunteers(U) among the people.
Praise the Lord!
10 “You who ride on white donkeys,(V)
sitting on your saddle blankets,
and you who walk along the road,
consider 11 the voice of the singers[b] at the watering places.
They recite the victories(W) of the Lord,
the victories of his villagers in Israel.
“Then the people of the Lord
went down to the city gates.(X)
12 ‘Wake up,(Y) wake up, Deborah!(Z)
Wake up, wake up, break out in song!
Arise, Barak!(AA)
Take captive your captives,(AB) son of Abinoam.’
13 “The remnant of the nobles came down;
the people of the Lord came down to me against the mighty.
14 Some came from Ephraim,(AC) whose roots were in Amalek;(AD)
Benjamin(AE) was with the people who followed you.
From Makir(AF) captains came down,
from Zebulun those who bear a commander’s[c] staff.
15 The princes of Issachar(AG) were with Deborah;(AH)
yes, Issachar was with Barak,(AI)
sent under his command into the valley.
In the districts of Reuben
there was much searching of heart.
16 Why did you stay among the sheep pens[d](AJ)
to hear the whistling for the flocks?(AK)
In the districts of Reuben
there was much searching of heart.
17 Gilead(AL) stayed beyond the Jordan.
And Dan, why did he linger by the ships?
Asher(AM) remained on the coast(AN)
and stayed in his coves.
18 The people of Zebulun(AO) risked their very lives;
so did Naphtali(AP) on the terraced fields.(AQ)
19 “Kings came(AR), they fought,
the kings of Canaan fought.
At Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo,(AS)
they took no plunder of silver.(AT)
20 From the heavens(AU) the stars fought,
from their courses they fought against Sisera.
21 The river Kishon(AV) swept them away,
the age-old river, the river Kishon.
March on, my soul; be strong!(AW)
22 Then thundered the horses’ hooves—
galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds.(AX)
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ said the angel of the Lord.
‘Curse its people bitterly,
because they did not come to help the Lord,
to help the Lord against the mighty.’
24 “Most blessed of women(AY) be Jael,(AZ)
the wife of Heber the Kenite,(BA)
most blessed of tent-dwelling women.
25 He asked for water, and she gave him milk;(BB)
in a bowl fit for nobles she brought him curdled milk.
26 Her hand reached for the tent peg,
her right hand for the workman’s hammer.
She struck Sisera, she crushed his head,
she shattered and pierced his temple.(BC)
27 At her feet he sank,
he fell; there he lay.
At her feet he sank, he fell;
where he sank, there he fell—dead(BD).
28 “Through the window(BE) peered Sisera’s mother;
behind the lattice she cried out,(BF)
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed?’
29 The wisest of her ladies answer her;
indeed, she keeps saying to herself,
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoils:(BG)
a woman or two for each man,
colorful garments as plunder for Sisera,
colorful garments embroidered,
highly embroidered garments(BH) for my neck—
all this as plunder?(BI)’
31 “So may all your enemies perish,(BJ) Lord!
But may all who love you be like the sun(BK)
when it rises in its strength.”(BL)
Then the land had peace(BM) forty years.
