Cántico de Débora y Barac
5 Aquel día, Débora y Barac, hijo de Abinoán, entonaron este cántico:
2 Porque Israel se desmelena,
porque el pueblo acude voluntario,
¡bendecid al Señor!
3 ¡Oíd, reyes! ¡atended, príncipes!
Voy a cantar al Señor;
para el Señor, Dios de Israel, voy a tocar.
4 Señor, cuando salías de Seír,
cuando avanzabas por los campos de Edom,
tembló la tierra, chorrearon los cielos,
las nubes chorrearon agua.
5 Los montes se derritieron
delante del Señor, el Dios del Sinaí,
delante del Señor, el Dios de Israel.
6 En los días de Sangar, hijo de Anat,
en los días de Jael,
se cerraron los caminos;
marchaban los caminantes
por senderos desviados.
7 Vacíos los poblados, vacíos en Israel,
hasta que tú, Débora, te alzaste,
hasta que te alzaste, madre de Israel.
8 Preferían dioses nuevos;
la guerra les llegaba a las puertas;
no se veía un escudo,
ni una lanza entre los cuarenta mil de Israel.

de Zabulón son los que empuñan el bastón de mando.
15 Los príncipes de Isacar con Débora,
y Neftalí, con Barac, en la llanura,
lanzado tras sus pasos.
En los arroyos de Rubén,
largas deliberaciones.
16 ¿Por qué te has quedado en los corrales,
escuchando las flautas entre los rebaños?
En los arroyos de Rubén,
largas deliberaciones.
17 Galaad se ha quedado al otro lado del Jordán;
y Dan, ¿por qué tan lejos en sus naves?
Aser se ha instalado a orillas del mar,
allí en sus puertos mora.
18 Zabulón es un pueblo que reta a la muerte,
y Neftalí, en las alturas de sus campos.
19 Llegaron los reyes y combatieron,
combatieron los reyes de Canaán,
en Tanac, junto a las aguas de Meguido,
mas no lograron botín de plata.
20 Desde los cielos combatieron las estrellas,
desde sus órbitas combatieron contra Sísara.
21 El torrente Quisón los barrió,
el viejo torrente, el torrente Quisón.
¡Avanza, alma mía, con denuedo!
22 Cascos de caballos sacuden el suelo:
¡galopan, galopan los corceles!
23 Maldecid a Meroz, maldecidla,
dice el ángel del Señor,
maldecid a sus moradores:
porque no vinieron en ayuda del Señor,
en ayuda del Señor, entre los héroes.
24 Bendita entre las mujeres Jael,
mujer de Jéber, el quenita;
bendita sea entre las mujeres
que habitan en tiendas.
25 Pedía agua, le dio leche,
en copa de príncipes nata le ofreció.
26 Tendió la izquierda a la clavija,
la diestra al martillo carpintero.
Hirió a Sísara, le partió la cabeza,
lo golpeó y le atravesó la sien;
27 a sus pies se desplomó, se acostó y cayó;
a sus pies se desplomó y cayó;
allí se desplomó, y allí cayó destrozado.
28 A la ventana se asoma y atisba
la madre de Sísara, tras la celosía:
“¿Por qué tarda en llegar su carro?
¿Por qué se retrasa el galopar de su carroza?”.
29 La más discreta de sus damas le responde;
ella se lo repite a sí misma:
30 “Se habrán apoderado del botín y lo reparten:
una doncella, dos doncellas para cada guerrero;
botín de paños de colores para Sísara,
botín de paños de colores;
un manto, dos mantos bordados para mi cuello”.
31 Perezcan así, Señor, todos tus enemigos,
y sean tus amigos como el sol
cuando sale con toda su fuerza.
Y el país gozó de paz durante cuarenta años.

El canto de Débora y Barac
5 Aquel día, Débora y Barac, hijo de Abinóam, cantaron así:
2 «Alaben todos al Señor,
porque aún hay en Israel
hombres dispuestos a pelear;
porque aún hay entre el pueblo
hombres que responden al llamado de la guerra.
3 ¡Escúchenme, ustedes los reyes!
¡Óiganme, ustedes los gobernantes!
¡Voy a cantarle al Señor!,
¡voy a cantar al Dios de Israel!
4 »Cuando tú, Señor, saliste de Seír;
cuando te fuiste de los campos de Edom,
tembló la tierra, se estremeció el cielo,
las nubes derramaron su lluvia.
5 Delante de ti, Señor,
delante de ti, Dios de Israel,
temblaron los montes, tembló el Sinaí.
6 En los tiempos de Samgar, hijo de Anat,
y en los tiempos de Jael,
los viajeros abandonaron los caminos
y anduvieron por senderos escabrosos;
7 las aldeas de Israel
quedaron del todo abandonadas.
Fue entonces cuando yo me levanté,
¡yo, Débora, una madre de Israel!
8 »No faltó quien se escogiera nuevos dioses
mientras se luchaba a las puertas de la ciudad,
pero no se veía un escudo ni una lanza
entre cuarenta mil israelitas.
9 »¡Yo doy mi corazón
por los altos jefes de Israel,
por la gente de mi pueblo
que respondió al llamado de la guerra!
¡Alaben todos al Señor!
10 »Díganlo ustedes, los que montan asnas pardas;
y ustedes, los que se sientan en tapetes;
también ustedes, los viajeros:
11 ¡allá, entre los abrevaderos,
y al son de sonoros platillos,
proclamen las victorias del Señor,
las victorias de sus aldeas en Israel!
12 »¡Despierta, Débora, despierta,
despierta y entona una canción!
¡Y tú, Barac, hijo de Abinoan,
levántate y llévate a tus prisioneros!
13 »Entonces bajaron los israelitas
a luchar contra los poderosos;
bajaron por mí las tropas del Señor
a luchar contra los hombres de guerra.
14 Algunos hombres de Efraín bajaron al valle,
y tras ellos fueron las tropas de Benjamín.
De los de Maquir, bajaron sus jefes,
y de los de Zabulón, sus gobernantes.
15 También acompañaron a Débora
los jefes de Isacar;
Isacar fue el apoyo de Barac,
pues se lanzó tras él al valle.
»Si en los escuadrones de Rubén
hay grandes hombres de corazón resuelto,
16 ¿por qué se quedaron entre los rediles,
oyendo a los pastores llamar a sus ovejas?
¡En los escuadrones de Rubén
hay grandes hombres de corazón miedoso!
17 »Galaad se quedó acampando
al otro lado del río Jordán;
Dan se quedó junto a los barcos,
y Aser se quedó en la costa
y no se movió de sus puertos;
18 pero en las alturas de los campos,
Zabulón y Neftalí arriesgaron la vida.
19 »Entonces los reyes vinieron a Taanac,
junto a las aguas de Meguido;
los reyes cananeos vinieron en plan de guerra,
pero no obtuvieron plata ni riquezas.
20 Desde el cielo, desde sus órbitas,
las estrellas lucharon contra Sísara;
21 el arroyo, el arroyo antiguo,
el arroyo de Quisón los barrió a todos ellos.
¡Tú aplastarás la garganta de los poderosos!
22 »¡Resuenan los cascos de los caballos!
¡Galopan, galopan los briosos corceles!
23 Y el ángel del Señor anuncia:
“¡Que caiga una dura maldición
sobre Meroz y sus habitantes!”
Pues no acudieron, como los valientes,
en ayuda del Señor.
24 »¡Bendita sea entre las mujeres Jael,
la esposa de Héber el quenita!
¡Bendita sea entre las mujeres del campamento!
25 Agua pidió Sísara; leche le dio Jael.
¡Crema le dio en un tazón especial!
26 Mientras tanto, tomó la estaca con la izquierda
y el mazo de trabajo con la derecha,
y dando a Sísara un golpe en la cabeza
le rompió y atravesó las sienes.
27 Sísara se retorcía a los pies de Jael;
retorciéndose de dolor cayó al suelo,
y allí donde cayó, allí quedó muerto.
28 »La madre de Sísara, afligida,
se asoma a la ventana y dice:
“¿Por qué tarda tanto en llegar su carro?
¿Por qué se retrasa su carro de guerra?”
29 Algunas damas sabihondas le responden,
y aun ella misma se repite:
30 “Seguramente se están repartiendo
lo que ganaron en la guerra.
Una esclava, y aun dos, para cada guerrero;
para Sísara las telas de colores:
una tela, y aun dos,
bordadas de varios colores,
para el cuello del vencedor.”
31 »¡Que así sean destruidos, Señor,
todos tus enemigos,
y que brillen los que te aman,
como el sol en todo su esplendor!»
Después de eso hubo paz en la región durante cuarenta años.

3 »¡Préstenme atención
reyes y gobernantes!
Mi canto y mi música
son para el verdadero Dios,
el Dios de Israel.
4 »Cuando tú, mi Dios,
te fuiste de Seír,
cuando te marchaste
de los campos de Edom,
la tierra tembló,
el cielo se estremeció,
y las nubes dejaron caer su lluvia.
5 El monte Sinaí
y todas las montañas
temblaron ante el Dios de Israel.
6 »En la época de Samgar y de Jael,
eran muy peligrosos los caminos,
la gente andaba por veredas angostas;

a los pocos valientes

y las victorias de su pueblo Israel!

13 »Los jefes israelitas bajaron,
y se unieron al pueblo de Dios
para luchar contra el poderoso enemigo.
14 De la tierra de los amalecitas
bajaron los de Efraín;
detrás de ti, Débora,
marcharon los de Benjamín.
Se te unieron los jefes de Maquir,
y los gobernantes de Zabulón.
15 Los jefes de Isacar te acompañaron,
y apoyaron a Barac
en la batalla del valle.
Pero los de la tribu de Rubén
16 prefirieron quedarse a cuidar las ovejas,
que acompañarte a la batalla.
17 Las tribus al otro lado del Jordán
se quedaron en sus tierras de Galaad.
Los de Dan y de Aser
se quedaron en los puertos,
cuidando sus barcos.
18 Pero los de Zabulón y Neftalí
arriesgaron sus vidas
en los campos de batalla.
19 »Luego, en Taanac,
junto al arroyo Meguido,
vinieron a pelear los reyes cananeos.
Pero volvieron con las manos vacías.
20 ¡Hasta las estrellas del cielo
lucharon contra Sísara!
21 El antiguo arroyo de Quisón
barrió con todos nuestros enemigos.
»¡Adelante, siempre adelante!
¡Yo, Débora, marcharé con poder!
22 »Los caballos de Sísara
salieron a galope tendido;
¡sus cascos retumbaban como relámpagos!
23 Y anunció el ángel de Dios:
“¡Que Dios castigue
a los habitantes de Meroz!
Porque no vinieron a ayudar
al ejército de Dios,
¡no quisieron luchar por él!”
24 »¡Bendita seas Jael,
esposa de Héber el quenita!
¡Bendita entre todas las mujeres de Israel!
25 Sísara te pidió agua y tú le diste leche
para hacerlo caer en un sueño profundo.
26 Con una mano tomaste una estaca,
y con la otra, un martillo.
De un golpe le aplastaste la cabeza.
27 Sísara se desplomó entre tus piernas.
¡Quedó tendido en el piso!
28 »La madre de Sísara, afligida,
se asoma por la ventana y pregunta:
“¿Por qué tarda tanto mi hijo?
¿Por qué no se oyen sus caballos?”
29 Las sirvientas más sabias le responden;

30 “Seguramente se están repartiendo

Una o dos mujeres para cada capitán,
telas de muchos colores para Sísara,
uno o dos pañuelos bordados en colores
para adornarse el cuello...”.
31 »Y Débora y Barac
terminaron su canto así:
¡Dios mío,
que sean destruidos tus enemigos,
pero que tus amigos brillen
como el sol de mediodía!»
Después de eso hubo cuarenta años de paz en todo el territorio.

5 Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,
2 Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.
3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.
4 Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.
5 The mountains melted from before the Lord, even that Sinai from before the Lord God of Israel.
6 In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.
7 The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel.
8 They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
9 My heart is toward the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye the Lord.
10 Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way.
11 They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates.
12 Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.
13 Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: the Lord made me have dominion over the mighty.
14 Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
15 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart.
16 Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart.
17 Gilead abode beyond Jordan: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches.
18 Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death in the high places of the field.
19 The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money.
20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
21 The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength.
22 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, the pransings of their mighty ones.
23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the Lord, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty.
24 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.
25 He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish.
26 She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples.
27 At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead.
28 The mother of Sisera looked out at a window, and cried through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? why tarry the wheels of his chariots?
29 Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she returned answer to herself,
30 Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colours, a prey of divers colours of needlework, of divers colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?
31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

Bless Yahweh!
3 Hear, O kings; give ear, O rulers!
(D)As for me, to Yahweh, I will sing;
I will sing praise to Yahweh, the God of Israel.
4 (E)O Yahweh, when You went out from Seir,
When You marched from the field of Edom,
(F)The earth quaked, the heavens also dripped,
Even the clouds dripped water.
5 (G)The mountains [b]flowed at the presence of Yahweh,
(H)This Sinai, at the presence of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
6 “In the days of (I)Shamgar the son of Anath,
In the days of (J)Jael, the paths had ceased,
So travelers [c]went by [d]roundabout paths.
7 The peasantry ceased; they ceased in Israel,
Until I, Deborah, arose,
Until I arose, a mother in Israel.

28 “Out of the window she looked and lamented,
The mother of Sisera through the [n]lattice,
‘Why does his chariot delay in coming?
Why do the [o]hoofbeats of his chariots tarry?’
29 Her wise princesses would answer her,
Indeed she repeats her words to herself,
30 ‘(AF)Are they not finding, are they not dividing the spoil?
A maiden, two maidens for every mighty man;
To Sisera a spoil of dyed work,
A spoil of dyed work embroidered,
Dyed work of double embroidery on the [p]neck of the spoil?’
31 (AG)Thus let all Your enemies perish, O Yahweh;
(AH)But let those who love Him be like the rising of the sun in its might.”
And the land was quiet for forty years.
