Débora y Barac derrotan a Sísara
4 Después de la muerte de Aod, los israelitas volvieron a hacer lo malo a los ojos del Señor. 2 Por eso el Señor los dejó caer en manos de Jabín, el rey cananeo que reinaba en Jazor. El capitán del ejército enemigo se llamaba Sísara, y vivía en Jaroset Goyín. 3 Entonces los israelitas clamaron al Señor para que los librara, pues Jabín tenía novecientos carros de hierro y durante veinte años había oprimido cruelmente a los israelitas.
4 En aquel tiempo gobernaba a Israel una profetisa llamada Débora, que era mujer de Lapidot. 5 Débora acostumbraba sentarse bajo una palmera que estaba entre Ramá y Betel, en el monte de Efraín. Los israelitas iban a ese lugar, conocido como «La palmera de Débora», para que les hiciera justicia. 6 Un día, Débora mandó llamar a Barac hijo de Abinoán, quien era de Cedes de Neftalí. Cuando Barac llegó, ella le preguntó:
«El Señor y Dios de Israel te ha dado una orden, ¿no es verdad? Te ha dicho: “Ve y reúne a tu gente en el monte de Tabor. Toma diez mil hombres de la tribu de Neftalí y de la tribu de Zabulón. 7 Yo voy a hacer que Sísara, el capitán del ejército de Jabín, vaya al arroyo de Cisón con sus carros y su ejército, y allí lo entregaré en tus manos.”»
8 Y Barac le respondió:
«Iré, si tú vas conmigo. Si no vas conmigo, no iré.»
9 Ella le dijo:
«Voy a ir contigo. Pero la gloria de la victoria no será tuya, porque el Señor va a poner a Sísara en manos de una mujer.»
Y así, Débora se levantó y acompañó a Barac hasta Cedes. 10 Allí Barac reunió a las tribus de Zabulón y Neftalí, que eran diez mil hombres bajo su mando. Débora lo acompañó.
11 Un quenita llamado Jéber, descendiente de Hobab, el suegro de Moisés, se había apartado de los quenitas para plantar sus tiendas de campaña en el valle de Sanayin, junto a Cedes.
12 Como Sísara fue informado de que Barac hijo de Abinoán había subido al monte Tabor, 13 reunió sus novecientos carros de hierro y a todo su ejército, que era tan numeroso que se extendía desde Jaroset Goyín hasta el arroyo de Cisón. 14 Entonces Débora le dijo a Barac:
«Levántate, que hoy el Señor va a poner a Sísara en tus manos, pues en verdad el Señor está contigo.»
Barac bajó entonces del monte Tabor con sus diez mil hombres, 15 y el Señor derrotó delante de Barac a Sísara, desbaratando sus carros y pasando a filo de espada a todo su ejército. Al ver esto, Sísara bajó de su carro y huyó a pie. 16 Pero Barac persiguió los carros y al ejército hasta Jaroset Goyín, y los pasó a filo de espada, hasta no dejar a uno solo con vida.
17 Sísara, que había huido a pie, llegó a la tienda de campaña de Yael, mujer de Jéber el quenita, pues Jabín, el rey de Jazor, estaba en paz con la tribu de Jéber. 18 Yael salió a recibir a Sísara, y le dijo:
«Acércate, mi señor, no tengas miedo.»
Sísara entró en la tienda de campaña, y ella lo cubrió con una manta. 19 Entonces el rey le dijo:
«Por favor, dame a beber un poco de agua, pues tengo mucha sed.»
Yael abrió un odre de leche, le dio de beber, y lo volvió a cubrir. 20 Entonces Sísara le dijo:
«Quédate a la entrada de tu tienda, y si alguien viene y te pregunta si hay alguien aquí, tú le responderás que no.»
21 Pero como Sísara estaba muy cansado y pronto se quedó dormido, Yael tomó una estaca de la tienda y un mazo y, acercándose sigilosamente, le clavó la estaca en las sienes, hasta hundirla en tierra. Así murió Sísara.
22 Como Barac iba siguiendo a Sísara, cuando Yael lo vio, salió a recibirlo y le dijo:
«Ven, que voy a mostrarte al hombre que buscas.»
Barac entró con ella, y se encontró con que Sísara estaba ahí, muerto y con la estaca clavada en la sien.
23 Ese día, Dios humilló al rey cananeo Jabín frente a los israelitas, 24 y éstos fueron endureciendo su trato contra Jabín, hasta que lo destruyeron.

4 Después de la muerte de Aod, los hijos de Israel volvieron a hacer lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová. 2 Y Jehová los vendió en mano de Jabín rey de Canaán, el cual reinó en Hazor; y el capitán de su ejército se llamaba Sísara, el cual habitaba en Haroset-goim. 3 Entonces los hijos de Israel clamaron a Jehová, porque aquel tenía novecientos carros herrados, y había oprimido con crueldad a los hijos de Israel por veinte años.
4 Gobernaba en aquel tiempo a Israel una mujer, Débora, profetisa, mujer de Lapidot; 5 y acostumbraba sentarse bajo la palmera de Débora, entre Ramá y Bet-el, en el monte de Efraín; y los hijos de Israel subían a ella a juicio. 6 Y ella envió a llamar a Barac hijo de Abinoam, de Cedes de Neftalí, y le dijo: ¿No te ha mandado Jehová Dios de Israel, diciendo: Ve, junta a tu gente en el monte de Tabor, y toma contigo diez mil hombres de la tribu de Neftalí y de la tribu de Zabulón; 7 y yo atraeré hacia ti al arroyo de Cisón a Sísara, capitán del ejército de Jabín, con sus carros y su ejército, y lo entregaré en tus manos? 8 Barac le respondió: Si tú fueres conmigo, yo iré; pero si no fueres conmigo, no iré. 9 Ella dijo: Iré contigo; mas no será tuya la gloria de la jornada que emprendes, porque en mano de mujer venderá Jehová a Sísara. Y levantándose Débora, fue con Barac a Cedes. 10 Y juntó Barac a Zabulón y a Neftalí en Cedes, y subió con diez mil hombres a su mando; y Débora subió con él.
11 Y Heber ceneo, de los hijos de Hobab suegro de Moisés, se había apartado de los ceneos, y había plantado sus tiendas en el valle de Zaanaim, que está junto a Cedes.
12 Vinieron, pues, a Sísara las nuevas de que Barac hijo de Abinoam había subido al monte de Tabor. 13 Y reunió Sísara todos sus carros, novecientos carros herrados, con todo el pueblo que con él estaba, desde Haroset-goim hasta el arroyo de Cisón. 14 Entonces Débora dijo a Barac: Levántate, porque este es el día en que Jehová ha entregado a Sísara en tus manos. ¿No ha salido Jehová delante de ti? Y Barac descendió del monte de Tabor, y diez mil hombres en pos de él. 15 Y Jehová quebrantó a Sísara, a todos sus carros y a todo su ejército, a filo de espada delante de Barac; y Sísara descendió del carro, y huyó a pie. 16 Mas Barac siguió los carros y el ejército hasta Haroset-goim, y todo el ejército de Sísara cayó a filo de espada, hasta no quedar ni uno.
17 Y Sísara huyó a pie a la tienda de Jael mujer de Heber ceneo; porque había paz entre Jabín rey de Hazor y la casa de Heber ceneo. 18 Y saliendo Jael a recibir a Sísara, le dijo: Ven, señor mío, ven a mí, no tengas temor. Y él vino a ella a la tienda, y ella le cubrió con una manta. 19 Y él le dijo: Te ruego me des de beber un poco de agua, pues tengo sed. Y ella abrió un odre de leche y le dio de beber, y le volvió a cubrir. 20 Y él le dijo: Estate a la puerta de la tienda; y si alguien viniere, y te preguntare, diciendo: ¿Hay aquí alguno? tú responderás que no. 21 Pero Jael mujer de Heber tomó una estaca de la tienda, y poniendo un mazo en su mano, se le acercó calladamente y le metió la estaca por las sienes, y la enclavó en la tierra, pues él estaba cargado de sueño y cansado; y así murió. 22 Y siguiendo Barac a Sísara, Jael salió a recibirlo, y le dijo: Ven, y te mostraré al varón que tú buscas. Y él entró donde ella estaba, y he aquí Sísara yacía muerto con la estaca por la sien.
23 Así abatió Dios aquel día a Jabín, rey de Canaán, delante de los hijos de Israel. 24 Y la mano de los hijos de Israel fue endureciéndose más y más contra Jabín rey de Canaán, hasta que lo destruyeron.

4 When Ehud was dead, (A)the children of Israel again did (B)evil in the sight of the Lord. 2 So the Lord (C)sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in (D)Hazor. The commander of his army was (E)Sisera, who dwelt in (F)Harosheth Hagoyim. 3 And the children of Israel cried out to the Lord; for Jabin had nine hundred (G)chariots of iron, and for twenty years (H)he had harshly oppressed the children of Israel.
4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time. 5 (I)And she would sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the mountains of Ephraim. And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. 6 Then she sent and called for (J)Barak the son of Abinoam from (K)Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, “Has not the Lord God of Israel commanded, ‘Go and [a]deploy troops at Mount (L)Tabor; take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun; 7 and against you (M)I will deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude at the (N)River Kishon; and I will [b]deliver him into your hand’?”
8 And Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go!”
9 So she said, “I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the Lord will (O)sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 And Barak called (P)Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; he went up with ten thousand men (Q)under[c] his command, and Deborah went up with him.
11 Now Heber (R)the Kenite, of the children of (S)Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, had separated himself from the Kenites and pitched his tent near the terebinth tree at Zaanaim, (T)which is beside Kedesh.
12 And they reported to Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor. 13 So Sisera gathered together all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who were with him, from Harosheth Hagoyim to the River Kishon.
14 Then Deborah said to Barak, [d]“Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has delivered Sisera into your hand. (U)Has not the Lord gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him. 15 And the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera alighted from his chariot and fled away on foot. 16 But Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth Hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not a man was (V)left.
17 However, Sisera had fled away on foot to the tent of (W)Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. 18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, “Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me; do not fear.” And when he had turned aside with her into the tent, she covered him with a [e]blanket.
19 Then he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” So she opened (X)a jug of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him. 20 And he said to her, “Stand at the door of the tent, and if any man comes and inquires of you, and says, ‘Is there any man here?’ you shall say, ‘No.’ ”
21 Then Jael, Heber’s wife, (Y)took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died. 22 And then, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, “Come, I will show you the man whom you seek.” And when he went into her tent, there lay Sisera, dead with the peg in his temple.
23 So on that day God subdued Jabin king of Canaan in the presence of the children of Israel. 24 And the hand of the children of Israel grew stronger and stronger against Jabin king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
