4 Cuando murió Ejud, los israelitas volvieron a hacer lo que desagrada al Señor, 2 por lo que el Señor los dejó a merced de Jabín, rey cananeo que reinaba en Jasor. El jefe de su ejército era Sísara, que habitaba en Jaróset Goyín.
3 Entonces los israelitas suplicaron al Señor porque Jabín tenía novecientos carros de hierro y llevaba veinte años oprimiendo duramente a los israelitas.
4 Por aquel tiempo, Débora, una profetisa, mujer de Lapidot, era juez en Israel. 5 Se sentaba a juzgar bajo la Palmera de Débora, entre Ramá y Betel, en la montaña de Efraín; y los israelitas acudían a ella en busca de justicia. 6 Débora mandó llamar a Barac, hijo de Abinoán, de Cadés de Neftalí, y le dijo:
— El Señor, Dios de Israel, te ordena: “Vete, recluta gente y reúne contigo en el monte Tabor a diez mil hombres de los hijos de Neftalí y de los hijos de Zabulón. 7 Yo atraeré hacia ti al torrente Quisón a Sísara, jefe del ejército de Jabín, con sus carros y sus tropas, y lo pondré en tus manos”.
8 Barac le respondió:
— Si tú vienes conmigo, yo también iré. Pero si tú no vienes conmigo, tampoco yo iré.
Respondió ella:
9 — Iré contigo, pero ya no será tuya la gloria de la campaña que vas a emprender, porque el Señor entregará a Sísara en manos de una mujer.
Débora se levantó y marchó con Barac a Cadés. 10 Y Barac convocó en Cadés a Zabulón y Neftalí. Subieron tras él diez mil hombres y Débora subió con él.
11 Jéber, el quenita, se había separado de la tribu de Caín y del clan de los hijos de Jobab, el suegro de Moisés, y había plantado su tienda cerca de la Encina de Sananín, en Cadés.
12 Avisaron a Sísara que Barac, el hijo de Abinoán, había subido al monte Tabor. 13 Y Sísara reunió todos sus carros, novecientos carros de hierro, y todas sus tropas, llevándolas desde Jaróset Goyín al torrente Quisón. 14 Débora dijo a Barac:
— ¡Ánimo! que este es el día en que el Señor te va a entregar a Sísara. ¿Acaso no va el Señor delante de ti?
Barac bajó del monte Tabor seguido de sus diez mil hombres. 15 El Señor sembró el pánico en Sísara, en todos sus carros y en todo su ejército ante Barac. Sísara se bajó del carro y huyó a pie. 16 Barac persiguió a los carros y al ejército hasta Jaróset Goyín. Todo el ejército de Sísara cayó a filo de espada: no quedó ni uno. 17 Pero Sísara huyó a pie hacia la tienda de Jael, mujer de Jéber, el quenita, porque reinaba la paz entre Jabín, rey de Jasor, y la familia de Jéber, el quenita. 18 Jael salió al encuentro de Sísara y le dijo:
— Entra, señor mío, entra en mi casa. No temas.
Sísara entró en la tienda y ella lo cubrió con una manta. 19 Él le pidió:
— Por favor, dame de beber un poco de agua, que tengo sed.
Ella abrió el odre de la leche, le dio de beber y lo volvió a tapar. 20 Sísara le dijo:
— Quédate a la entrada de la tienda y si alguien viene y te pregunta: “¿Hay alguien aquí?”, respóndele que no.
21 Pero Jael, mujer de Jéber, cogió una clavija de la tienda, tomó el martillo en la mano, se le acercó silenciosamente y le hincó la clavija en la sien hasta clavarla en tierra. Y Sísara que, agotado de cansancio, estaba profundamente dormido, murió. 22 Cuando llegó Barac persiguiendo a Sísara, Jael le salió al encuentro y le dijo:
— Ven, que te voy a mostrar al hombre que buscas.
Barac entró en la tienda donde Sísara yacía muerto con la clavija clavada en la sien.
23 Así humilló Dios aquel día a Jabín, rey cananeo, ante los israelitas 24 que cada vez fueron acosando más duramente a Jabín, rey cananeo, hasta que terminaron con él.

4 Después de la muerte de Ehud, los israelitas volvieron a pecar contra Dios. 2 Por eso él permitió que los venciera Jabín, un rey cananeo que gobernaba en la ciudad de Hasor. El jefe del ejército de Jabín se llamaba Sísara, y vivía en la ciudad de Haróset-goím. 3 Jabín tenía novecientos carros de hierro, y durante veinte años trató a los israelitas con crueldad y violencia, hasta que ellos le suplicaron a Dios que los salvara.
4 En esa época una profetisa llamada Débora era jefe de los israelitas. Débora era esposa de Lapidot, 5 y acostumbraba sentarse bajo una palmera, conocida como la Palmera de Débora, que estaba en las montañas de la tribu de Efraín, entre Ramá y Betel. Los israelitas iban a verla para que les solucionara sus problemas.
6 Cierto día, ella mandó llamar a Barac hijo de Abinóam, que vivía en Quedes, un pueblo de la tribu de Neftalí, y le dijo:
—El Dios de Israel, que es el Dios verdadero, te ordena reunir en el monte Tabor a diez mil hombres de las tribus de Neftalí y de Zabulón. 7 Dios hará que Sísara, el jefe del ejército de Jabín, vaya al arroyo Quisón para atacarte con sus soldados y sus carros. Pero Dios les dará a ustedes la victoria.
8 Barac le respondió:
—Iré solamente si tú me acompañas. De otra manera, no iré.
9 Entonces Débora dijo:
—Está bien, te acompañaré. Pero quiero que sepas que no serás tú quien mate a Sísara. Dios le dará ese honor a una mujer.
Y Débora se fue a Quedes con Barac, 10 donde éste reunió un ejército con diez mil hombres de las tribus de Zabulón y de Neftalí. 11 Por su parte, Héber el quenita, que era descendiente del suegro de Moisés, se había separado de su tribu y se había ido a vivir cerca de Quedes, junto al roble de Saanaim.
12 Cuando Sísara se enteró de que Barac se dirigía al monte Tabor, 13 reunió a sus novecientos carros de hierro y a todos sus soldados. Salieron de Haróset-goím y marcharon hasta el arroyo Quisón. 14 Entonces Débora le dijo a Barac: «¡En marcha, que hoy Dios te dará la victoria sobre Sísara! ¡Y Dios mismo va al frente de tu ejército!»
Barac bajó del monte Tabor, al frente de sus diez mil soldados. 15 Cuando Barac y sus hombres atacaron, Dios causó confusión entre los carros y los soldados de Sísara. Hasta el mismo Sísara se bajó de su carro y huyó a pie. 16 Barac, mientras tanto, persiguió a los soldados y a los carros hasta Haróset-goím. Aquel día murieron todos los soldados de Sísara. Ni uno solo quedó con vida.
17 Sísara huyó a pie hasta la carpa de Jael, la esposa de Héber, porque el rey Jabín era amigo de la familia de Héber. 18 Jael salió a recibirlo y le dijo: «Pase por aquí, señor. No tenga miedo».
Entonces él entró en la carpa, y ella lo escondió detrás de una cortina. 19 Como Sísara tenía mucha sed, le pidió a Jael que le diera agua. Ella destapó la jarra donde guardaba la leche, y le dio a beber. Después volvió, para esconder a Sísara, 20 y él le dijo: «Quédate a la entrada de la carpa. Si alguien pregunta quién está aquí adentro, dile que no hay nadie».
21 Sísara estaba tan cansado que se quedó profundamente dormido. Entonces Jael tomó un martillo y una estaca de la carpa, y sin hacer ruido se acercó hasta donde estaba Sísara; allí le atravesó la cabeza con la estaca, hasta clavarla en la tierra. Así murió Sísara.
22 Cuando llegó Barac buscando a Sísara, Jael salió a recibirlo y le dijo: «Ven y te mostraré al hombre que buscas». Barac entró en la carpa, y vio a Sísara tendido en el suelo, con la estaca clavada en la cabeza. 23-24 De esta manera Dios les dio la victoria a los israelitas, que en aquel día atacaron con todo al rey Jabín hasta destruirlo.

4 The Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord after Ehud had died. 2 So the Lord sold them into the hand of Jabin(A) king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor.(B) The commander of his forces was Sisera(C) who lived in Harosheth of the Nations.[a] 3 Then the Israelites cried out(D) to the Lord, because Jabin had 900 iron chariots, and he harshly oppressed them 20 years.
4 Deborah, a woman who was a prophetess(E) and the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. 5 It was her custom to sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her for judgment.(F)
6 She summoned Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “Hasn’t the Lord, the God of Israel,(G) commanded you: ‘Go, deploy the troops on Mount Tabor,(H) and take with you 10,000 men from the Naphtalites(I) and Zebulunites?(J) 7 Then I will lure Sisera commander of Jabin’s forces, his chariots, and his army at the Wadi Kishon(K) to fight against you, and I will hand him over to you.’”(L)
8 Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go. But if you will not go with me, I will not go.”
9 “I will go with you,” she said, “but you will receive no honor on the road you are about to take, because the Lord will sell Sisera into a woman’s hand.” So Deborah got up and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; 10,000 men followed him, and Deborah also went with him.
11 Now Heber the Kenite had moved away from the Kenites, the sons of Hobab,(M) Moses’ father-in-law,(N) and pitched his tent beside the oak tree of Zaanannim,(O) which was near Kedesh.
12 It was reported to Sisera that Barak son of Abinoam had gone up Mount Tabor. 13 Sisera summoned all his 900 iron chariots and all the people who were with him from Harosheth of the Nations[b] to the Wadi Kishon. 14 Then Deborah said to Barak, “Move on, for this is the day the Lord has handed Sisera over to you. Hasn’t the Lord gone before you?” So Barak came down from Mount Tabor with 10,000 men following him.
15 The Lord threw Sisera, all his charioteers, and all his army into confusion(P) with the sword before Barak. Sisera left his chariot and fled on foot. 16 Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth of the Nations,[c] and the whole army of Sisera fell by the sword; not a single man was left.
17 Meanwhile, Sisera had fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite. 18 Jael went out to greet Sisera and said to him, “Come in, my lord. Come in with me. Don’t be afraid.” So he went into her tent, and she covered him with a rug. 19 He said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink for I am thirsty.” She opened a container of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him again. 20 Then he said to her, “Stand at the entrance to the tent. If a man comes and asks you, ‘Is there a man here?’ say, ‘No.’” 21 While he was sleeping from exhaustion, Heber’s wife Jael took a tent peg, grabbed a hammer, and went silently to Sisera. She hammered the peg into his temple and drove it into the ground, and he died.
22 When Barak arrived in pursuit of Sisera, Jael went out to greet him and said to him, “Come and I will show you the man you are looking for.” So he went in with her, and there was Sisera lying dead with a tent peg through his temple!
23 That day God subdued Jabin king of Canaan before the Israelites. 24 The power of the Israelites continued to increase against Jabin king of Canaan until they destroyed him.

4 Again the Israelites did evil(A) in the eyes of the Lord,(B) now that Ehud(C) was dead. 2 So the Lord sold them(D) into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor.(E) Sisera,(F) the commander of his army, was based in Harosheth Haggoyim. 3 Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron(G) and had cruelly oppressed(H) the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help.
4 Now Deborah,(I) a prophet,(J) the wife of Lappidoth, was leading[a] Israel at that time. 5 She held court(K) under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah(L) and Bethel(M) in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided. 6 She sent for Barak son of Abinoam(N) from Kedesh(O) in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali(P) and Zebulun(Q) and lead them up to Mount Tabor.(R) 7 I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s(S) army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River(T) and give him into your hands.(U)’”
8 Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”
9 “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.(V) 10 There Barak summoned(W) Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men went up under his command. Deborah also went up with him.
11 Now Heber the Kenite had left the other Kenites,(X) the descendants of Hobab,(Y) Moses’ brother-in-law,[b] and pitched his tent by the great tree(Z) in Zaanannim(AA) near Kedesh.
12 When they told Sisera that Barak son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor,(AB) 13 Sisera summoned from Harosheth Haggoyim to the Kishon River(AC) all his men and his nine hundred chariots fitted with iron.(AD)
14 Then Deborah said to Barak, “Go! This is the day the Lord has given Sisera into your hands.(AE) Has not the Lord gone ahead(AF) of you?” So Barak went down Mount Tabor, with ten thousand men following him. 15 At Barak’s advance, the Lord routed(AG) Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword, and Sisera got down from his chariot and fled on foot.
16 Barak pursued the chariots and army as far as Harosheth Haggoyim, and all Sisera’s troops fell by the sword; not a man was left.(AH) 17 Sisera, meanwhile, fled on foot to the tent of Jael,(AI) the wife of Heber the Kenite,(AJ) because there was an alliance between Jabin king of Hazor(AK) and the family of Heber the Kenite.
18 Jael(AL) went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Come, my lord, come right in. Don’t be afraid.” So he entered her tent, and she covered him with a blanket.
19 “I’m thirsty,” he said. “Please give me some water.” She opened a skin of milk,(AM) gave him a drink, and covered him up.
20 “Stand in the doorway of the tent,” he told her. “If someone comes by and asks you, ‘Is anyone in there?’ say ‘No.’”
21 But Jael,(AN) Heber’s wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep,(AO) exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died.(AP)
22 Just then Barak came by in pursuit of Sisera, and Jael(AQ) went out to meet him. “Come,” she said, “I will show you the man you’re looking for.” So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera with the tent peg through his temple—dead.(AR)
23 On that day God subdued(AS) Jabin(AT) king of Canaan before the Israelites. 24 And the hand of the Israelites pressed harder and harder against Jabin king of Canaan until they destroyed him.(AU)

9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.
11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.
13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.
14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15 And the Lord discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.
16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.
17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.
19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.
21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.
22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.
23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
