2 Y EL ángel de Jehová subió de Gilgal á Bochîm, y dijo: Yo os saqué de Egipto, y os introduje en la tierra de la cual había jurado á vuestros padres; y dije: No invalidaré jamás mi pacto con vosotros;
2 Con tal que vosotros no hagáis alianza con los moradores de aquesta tierra, cuyos altares habéis de derribar: mas vosotros no habéis atendido á mi voz: ¿por qué habéis hecho esto?
3 Por tanto yo también dije: No los echaré de delante de vosotros, sino que os serán por azote para vuestros costados, y sus dioses por tropiezo.
4 Y como el ángel de Jehová habló estas palabras á todos los hijos de Israel, el pueblo lloró en alta voz.
5 Y llamaron por nombre aquel lugar Bochîm: y sacrificaron allí á Jehová.
6 Porque ya Josué había despedido al pueblo, y los hijos de Israel se habían ido cada uno á su heredad para poseerla.
7 Y el pueblo había servido á Jehová todo el tiempo de Josué, y todo el tiempo de los ancianos que vivieron largos días después de Josué, los cuales habían visto todas las grandes obras de Jehová, que él había hecho por Israel.
8 Y murió Josué hijo de Nun, siervo de Jehová, siendo de ciento y diez años.
9 Y enterráronlo en el término de su heredad en Timnath-sera, en el monte de Ephraim, el norte del monte de Gaas.
10 Y toda aquella generación fué también recogida con sus padres. Y levantóse después de ellos otra generación, que no conocían á Jehová, ni la obra que él había hecho por Israel.
11 Y los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo en ojos de Jehová, y sirvieron á los Baales:
12 Y dejaron á Jehová el Dios de sus padres, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto, y fuéronse tras otros dioses, los dioses de los pueblos que estaban en sus alrededores, á los cuales adoraron; y provocaron á ira á Jehová.
13 Y dejaron á Jehová, y adoraron á Baal y á Astaroth.
14 Y el furor de Jehová se encendió contra Israel, el cual los entregó en manos de robadores que los despojaron, y los vendió en manos de sus enemigos de alrededor: y no pudieron parar más delante de sus enemigos.
15 Por donde quiera que salían, la mano de Jehová era contra ellos para mal, como Jehová había dicho, y como Jehová se lo había jurado; así los afligió en gran manera.
16 Mas Jehová suscitó jueces que los librasen de mano de los que los despojaban.
17 Y tampoco oyeron á sus jueces, sino que fornicaron tras dioses ajenos, á los cuales adoraron: apartáronse bien presto del camino en que anduvieron sus padres obedeciendo á los mandamientos de Jehová; mas ellos no hicieron así.
18 Y cuando Jehová les suscitaba jueces, Jehová era con el juez, y librábalos de mano de los enemigos todo el tiempo de aquel juez: porque Jehová se arrepentía por sus gemidos á causa de los que los oprimían y afligían.
19 Mas en muriendo el juez, ellos se tornaban, y se corrompían más que sus padres, siguiendo dioses ajenos para servirles, e inclinándose delante de ellos; y nada disminuían de sus obras, ni de su duro camino.
20 Y la ira de Jehová se encendió contra Israel, y dijo: Pues que esta gente traspasa mi pacto que ordené á sus padres, y no obedecen mi voz,
21 Tampoco yo echaré más de delante de ellos á ninguna de aquestas gentes que dejó Josué cuando murió;
22 Para que por ellas probara yo á Israel, si guardarían ellos el camino de Jehová andando por él, como sus padres lo guardaron, ó no.
23 Por esto dejó Jehová aquellas gentes, y no las desarraigó luego, ni las entregó en mano de Josué.

The Angel of the Lord at Bokim
2 The angel of the Lord(A) went up from Gilgal(B) to Bokim(C) and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt(D) and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors.(E) I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you,(F) 2 and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land,(G) but you shall break down their altars.(H)’ Yet you have disobeyed(I) me. Why have you done this? 3 And I have also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you;(J) they will become traps(K) for you, and their gods will become snares(L) to you.’”
4 When the angel of the Lord had spoken these things to all the Israelites, the people wept aloud,(M) 5 and they called that place Bokim.[a](N) There they offered sacrifices to the Lord.
Disobedience and Defeat(O)
6 After Joshua had dismissed the Israelites, they went to take possession of the land, each to their own inheritance. 7 The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel.(P)
8 Joshua son of Nun,(Q) the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten. 9 And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath Heres[b](R) in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
10 After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.(S) 11 Then the Israelites did evil(T) in the eyes of the Lord(U) and served the Baals.(V) 12 They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods(W) of the peoples around them.(X) They aroused(Y) the Lord’s anger(Z) 13 because they forsook(AA) him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.(AB) 14 In his anger(AC) against Israel the Lord gave them into the hands(AD) of raiders who plundered(AE) them. He sold them(AF) into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.(AG) 15 Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the Lord was against them(AH) to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them. They were in great distress.(AI)
16 Then the Lord raised up judges,[c](AJ) who saved(AK) them out of the hands of these raiders. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted(AL) themselves to other gods(AM) and worshiped them.(AN) They quickly turned(AO) from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the Lord’s commands.(AP) 18 Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved(AQ) them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord relented(AR) because of their groaning(AS) under those who oppressed and afflicted(AT) them. 19 But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt(AU) than those of their ancestors,(AV) following other gods and serving and worshiping them.(AW) They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn(AX) ways.
20 Therefore the Lord was very angry(AY) with Israel and said, “Because this nation has violated the covenant(AZ) I ordained for their ancestors and has not listened to me, 21 I will no longer drive out(BA) before them any of the nations Joshua left when he died. 22 I will use them to test(BB) Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it as their ancestors did.” 23 The Lord had allowed those nations to remain; he did not drive them out at once by giving them into the hands of Joshua.(BC)

2 Och HERRENS ängel kom från Gilgal upp till Bokim. Och han sade: »Jag förde eder upp ur Egypten och lät eder komma in i det land som jag med ed hade lovat åt edra fäder; och jag sade: 'Jag skall icke bryta mitt förbund med eder till evig tid.
2 I åter skolen icke sluta förbund med detta lands inbyggare; I skolen bryta ned deras altaren.' Men I haven icke velat höra min röst. Vad haven I gjort! --
3 Därför säger jag nu ock: 'Jag vill icke förjaga dem för eder, utan de skola tränga eder i sidorna, och deras gudar skola bliva eder till en snara.'»
4 När HERRENS ängel hade talat dessa ord till alla Israels barn, brast folket ut i gråt.
5 Och de gåvo den platsen namnet Bokim; och de offrade där åt HERREN.
6 Sedan Josua hade låtit folket gå, drogo Israels barn åstad var och en till sin arvedel, för att taga landet i besittning.
7 Och folket tjänade HERREN, så länge Josua levde, och så länge de äldste levde, de som voro kvar efter Josua, dessa som hade sett alla de stora gärningar HERREN hade gjort för Israel.
8 Men HERRENS tjänare Josua, Nuns son, dog, när han var ett hundra tio år gammal.
9 Och man begrov honom på hans arvedels område i Timna-Heres i Efraims bergsbygd, norr om berget Gaas.
10 När sedan också hela det släktet hade blivit samlat till sina fäder, kom ett annat släkte upp efter dem, ett som icke visste av HERREN eller de gärningar som han hade gjort för Israel.
11 Då gjorde Israels barn vad ont var i HERRENS ögon och tjänade Baalerna.
12 De övergåvo HERREN, sina fäders Gud, som hade fört dem ut ur Egyptens land, och följde efter andra gudar, de folks gudar, som bodde omkring dem, och dessa tillbådo de; därmed förtörnade de HERREN.
13 Ty när de övergåvo HERREN och tjänade Baal och Astarterna,
14 upptändes HERRENS vrede mot i Israel, och han gav dem i plundrares hand, och dessa utplundrade dem; han sålde dem i deras fienders hand där runt omkring, så att de icke mer kunde stå emot sina fiender.
15 Varthelst de drogo ut var HERRENS hand emot dem, så att de kommo i olycka, såsom HERREN hade hotat, och såsom HERREN hade svurit att det skulle gå dem, och de kommo i stor nöd.
16 Då lät HERREN domare uppstå, som frälste dem ur deras plundrares hand.
17 Men de hörde icke heller på sina domare, utan lupo i trolös avfällighet efter andra gudar och tillbådo dem; de veko med hast av ifrån den väg som deras fäder hade vandrat, i lydnad för HERRENS bud, och gjorde icke såsom de.
18 När HERREN alltså lät någon domare uppstå bland dem, var han med domaren och frälste dem ur deras fienders hand, så länge domaren levde; ty då de jämrade sig över sina förtryckare och plågare, förbarmade sig HERREN.
19 Men när domaren dog, vände de tillbaka och togo sig till vad fördärvligt var, ännu mer än deras fäder, så att de följde efter andra gudar och tjänade och tillbådo dem; de avstodo icke från sina gärningar och sin hårdnackenhet.
20 Därför upptändes HERRENS vrede mot Israel, så att han sade: »Eftersom detta folk har överträtt det förbund som jag stadgade för deras fäder, och icke har velat höra min röst,
21 därför skall icke heller jag hädanefter fördriva för dem en enda man av de folk som Josua lämnade efter sig, när han dog;
22 ty jag skall med dem sätta Israel på prov, om de vilja hålla HERRENS väg och vandra därpå, såsom deras fäder hava hållit den, eller om de icke vilja det.»
23 Alltså lät HERREN dessa folk bliva kvar och fördrev dem icke med hast; han gav dem icke i Josuas hand.
