Sansón y Dalila
16 Un día Sansón fue a la ciudad filistea de Gaza y pasó la noche con una prostituta. 2 Pronto se supo que había sido visto en la ciudad, y montaron guardia junto a las puertas de la ciudad para capturarlo si trataba de irse. «En la mañana —decían ellos—, cuando haya suficiente luz, lo encontraremos y le daremos muerte».
3 Sansón estuvo acostado con la prostituta hasta la media noche, y entonces se dirigió a las puertas de la ciudad, las arrancó con sus dos postes, las cargó sobre sus hombros y se las llevó hasta la cumbre de la montaña que está frente a Hebrón.
4 Algún tiempo después se enamoró de una joven llamada Dalila, del valle de Sorec. 5 Los cinco jefes de los filisteos fueron a hablar con ella y le pidieron que tratara de descubrir qué era lo que hacía que Sansón tuviera tanta fuerza, a fin de saber cómo vencerlo y encadenarlo. «Cada uno de nosotros te dará mil cien monedas de plata si lo haces» —le prometieron.
6 Entonces Dalila rogó a Sansón que le dijera su secreto.
―Sansón, dime por qué eres tan fuerte —le rogaba—. No creo que nadie sea capaz de capturarte.
7 ―Cómo no —respondió Sansón—. Si me atan con siete mimbres verdes, quedaré tan débil como cualquiera.
8 Los jefes filisteos buscaron siete mimbres verdes y, mientras dormía, ella lo ató. 9 Algunos de los hombres estaban escondidos en la pieza contigua, de modo que tan pronto como ella lo hubo atado, exclamó:
―¡Sansón, los filisteos están aquí!
Pero él reventó los mimbres verdes como si hubieran sido hilo de algodón y no fue descubierto su secreto.
10 Dalila le dijo:
―Te estás burlando de mí. Me has mentido. Dime, ¿cómo se te puede vencer?
11 ―Si me atan con cuerdas nuevas que jamás hayan sido usadas —le respondió—, seré tan débil como cualquier otro hombre. 12 Nuevamente, mientras él dormía, Dalila tomó cuerdas nuevas y lo ató con ellas. Los filisteos estaban escondidos en la pieza contigua como antes. Una vez más Dalila dijo:
―¡Sansón, los filisteos han venido a capturarte!
Pero él rompió las cuerdas con sus brazos como si fueran telas de araña.
13 ―Te has burlado nuevamente de mí, y me has vuelto a mentir. Ahora dime cómo se te puede capturar.
―Si tejes mi cabello con un telar —le dijo—, yo me debilitaré.
14 Cuando se durmió, hizo exactamente aquello y luego gritó:
«¡Los filisteos han venido, Sansón!». Y él despertó y arrancó la urdimbre y el telar con sus trenzas.
15 «¿Cómo puedes decir que me amas, si no confías en mí? —se quejó ella—. Ya te has burlado de mí tres veces y no me has dicho qué es lo que te da la fuerza».
16 Como Dalila lo acosaba e importunaba día tras día, él no pudo resistir 17 y finalmente le dijo el secreto. «Jamás me he cortado el pelo —confesó—, porque soy nazareo para Dios desde mi nacimiento. Si me cortaran el cabello, la fuerza me abandonaría y yo sería tan débil como un hombre común».
18 Dalila comprendió que finalmente le había dicho la verdad, por lo que mandó a buscar a los cinco jefes de los filisteos. «Vengan una vez más —dijo ella—, porque esta vez me ha dicho la verdad». Entonces ellos llevaron el dinero que le habían ofrecido. 19 Ella lo hizo dormir con la cabeza sobre sus rodillas, y ellos hicieron entrar a un barbero para que le cortara el cabello. Dalila se dio cuenta de que su fuerza lo había abandonado. 20 Entonces ella gritó: «¡Los filisteos están aquí para capturarte, Sansón!».
Él despertó y pensó: «Haré como antes: me desharé de ellos». Pero no se había dado cuenta de que el Señor se había apartado de él.
21 Los filisteos lo capturaron, le sacaron los ojos y se lo llevaron a Gaza, donde fue atado con cadenas de bronce y lo ocuparon para mover el molino y moler grano en la prisión. 22 Pero el cabello no tardó en crecerle nuevamente.
Muerte de Sansón
23-24 Los jefes de los filisteos hicieron una gran fiesta a fin de celebrar la captura de Sansón. El pueblo hacía sacrificios al dios Dagón y lo alababan con mucho entusiasmo.
«Nuestro dios nos ha librado de nuestro enemigo Sansón —gritaban satisfechos al verlo allí atado con cadenas—. El enemigo de nuestra nación, el que destruía nuestros campos, y el que ha matado a tantos de nosotros, ahora está en nuestro poder».
25 El pueblo ya medio embriagado, pidió:
«¡Traigan a Sansón para divertirnos a costa suya!».
Lo llevaron desde la prisión y lo pusieron en medio del templo entre las dos columnas que sostenían el techo. 26 Sansón le dijo al muchacho que lo guiaba de la mano: «Pon una de mis manos en cada columna, para apoyarme en ellas». 27 El templo estaba completamente lleno de gente. Todos los príncipes filisteos estaban allí también junto con tres mil personas que desde los balcones contemplaban a Sansón y se reían de él. 28 Sansón oró al Señor y le dijo: «Oh Señor Dios, acuérdate de mí nuevamente, dame fuerzas sólo una vez más, para vengarme de los filisteos por la pérdida de mis ojos».
29 Entonces Sansón empujó fuertemente las columnas y gritó: 30 «Muera yo junto con los filisteos». Y el templo se derrumbó sobre los jefes de los filisteos y sobre todo el pueblo. Y los que él mató en el momento de morir fueron más de los que había matado en toda su vida.
31 Más tarde sus hermanos y otros parientes fueron a buscar el cuerpo, y lo llevaron nuevamente a su tierra y lo sepultaron entre Zora y Estaol, donde Manoa había sido sepultado.
Sansón había gobernado a Israel durante veinte años.

Samson and Delilah
16 One day Samson(A) went to Gaza,(B) where he saw a prostitute.(C) He went in to spend the night with her. 2 The people of Gaza were told, “Samson is here!” So they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the city gate.(D) They made no move during the night, saying, “At dawn(E) we’ll kill him.”
3 But Samson lay there only until the middle of the night. Then he got up and took hold of the doors of the city gate, together with the two posts, and tore them loose, bar and all. He lifted them to his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.(F)
4 Some time later, he fell in love(G) with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah.(H) 5 The rulers of the Philistines(I) went to her and said, “See if you can lure(J) him into showing you the secret of his great strength(K) and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels[a] of silver.”(L)
6 So Delilah(M) said to Samson, “Tell me the secret of your great strength and how you can be tied up and subdued.”
7 Samson answered her, “If anyone ties me with seven fresh bowstrings that have not been dried, I’ll become as weak as any other man.”
8 Then the rulers of the Philistines brought her seven fresh bowstrings that had not been dried, and she tied him with them. 9 With men hidden in the room,(N) she called to him, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”(O) But he snapped the bowstrings as easily as a piece of string snaps when it comes close to a flame. So the secret of his strength was not discovered.
10 Then Delilah said to Samson, “You have made a fool of me;(P) you lied to me. Come now, tell me how you can be tied.”
11 He said, “If anyone ties me securely with new ropes(Q) that have never been used, I’ll become as weak as any other man.”
12 So Delilah took new ropes and tied him with them. Then, with men hidden in the room, she called to him, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”(R) But he snapped the ropes off his arms as if they were threads.
13 Delilah then said to Samson, “All this time you have been making a fool of me and lying to me. Tell me how you can be tied.”
He replied, “If you weave the seven braids of my head into the fabric on the loom and tighten it with the pin, I’ll become as weak as any other man.” So while he was sleeping, Delilah took the seven braids of his head, wove them into the fabric 14 and[b] tightened it with the pin.
Again she called to him, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”(S) He awoke from his sleep and pulled up the pin and the loom, with the fabric.
15 Then she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’(T) when you won’t confide in me? This is the third time(U) you have made a fool of me and haven’t told me the secret of your great strength.(V)” 16 With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it.
17 So he told her everything.(W) “No razor has ever been used on my head,” he said, “because I have been a Nazirite(X) dedicated to God from my mother’s womb. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man.”
18 When Delilah saw that he had told her everything, she sent word to the rulers of the Philistines(Y), “Come back once more; he has told me everything.” So the rulers of the Philistines returned with the silver in their hands.(Z) 19 After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him.[c] And his strength left him.(AA)
20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”(AB)
He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.(AC)
21 Then the Philistines(AD) seized him, gouged out his eyes(AE) and took him down to Gaza.(AF) Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding grain(AG) in the prison. 22 But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.
The Death of Samson
23 Now the rulers of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon(AH) their god and to celebrate, saying, “Our god has delivered Samson, our enemy, into our hands.”
24 When the people saw him, they praised their god,(AI) saying,
“Our god has delivered our enemy
into our hands,(AJ)
the one who laid waste our land
and multiplied our slain.”
25 While they were in high spirits,(AK) they shouted, “Bring out Samson to entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them.
When they stood him among the pillars, 26 Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Put me where I can feel the pillars that support the temple, so that I may lean against them.” 27 Now the temple was crowded with men and women; all the rulers of the Philistines were there, and on the roof(AL) were about three thousand men and women watching Samson perform. 28 Then Samson prayed to the Lord,(AM) “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge(AN) on the Philistines for my two eyes.” 29 Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, 30 Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived.
31 Then his brothers and his father’s whole family went down to get him. They brought him back and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah(AO) his father. He had led[d](AP) Israel twenty years.(AQ)

16 Tsiku lina Samsoni anapita ku Gaza. Kumeneko anaonako mkazi wachiwerewere, ndipo analowa mu nyumba yake. 2 Anthu a ku Gaza anawuzidwa kuti, “Samsoni ali kuno!” Choncho anthuwo anazungulira malowo, kumubisalira usiku wonse ku chipata cha mzindawo. Iwo anakhala chete usiku wonse namanena kuti, “Tidzamupha mmamawa.”
3 Koma Samsoni anangogonako mpaka pakati pa usiku. Kenaka pakati pa usiku anadzuka nagwira zitseko za chipata cha mzinda ndi maferemu ake awiri, ndipo anazizula zonse pamodzi ndi mpiringidzo womwe. Anazisenza pa mapewa pake napita nazo pamwamba pa phiri loyangʼanana ndi Hebroni.
4 Pambuyo pake, Samsoni anayamba kukonda mtsikana wina wa ku chigwa cha Soreki dzina lake Delila. 5 Olamulira Afilisti anapita kwa mkaziyo ndipo anati, “Umunyengerere Samsoni kuti udziwe chinsinsi cha mphamvu zake zoopsazi, komanso ndi mmene ife tingamupambanire kuti timumange ndi kumugonjetsa. Ukatero aliyense wa ife adzakupatsa ndalama zasiliva 1,100.”
6 Choncho Delila anati kwa Samsoni, “Inu tandiwuzani pamene pagona mphamvu zanu zoopsazi ndi mmene anthu akhoza kukumangirani kuti akugonjetseni.”
7 Samsoni anamuyankha kuti, “Ngati wina atandimanga ndi zingwe zisanu ndi ziwiri zatsopano zosawuma, ndidzafowoka ndi kusanduka ngati munthu wina aliyense.”
8 Tsono atsogoleri a Afilisti aja anapita kwa mkazi uja namupatsa zingwe zisanu ndi ziwiri zatsopano zosawuma, ndipo mkaziyo anamanga nazo Samsoni. 9 Nthawi imeneyo nʼkuti mkazi uja atayika anthu omubisalira mʼchipinda. Tsono anati kwa mwamuna wake, “Amuna anga, Afilisti aja afika!” Koma iye anangodula zingwe zija ngati mmene imadukira nkhosi ya chingwe ikamapsa. Choncho chinsinsi cha mphamvu zake sichinadziwike.
10 Kenaka Delila anati kwa Samsoni, “Inu mwandipusitsa ndi kundiwuza zabodza. Chonde tandiwuzani mmene munthu angakumangireni.”
11 Iye anati, “Ngati aliyense atandimanga ine ndi zingwe zatsopano zimene sanazigwiritseko ntchito, ndidzasanduka wofowoka ndi kukhala monga munthu wina aliyense.”
12 Choncho Delila anatenga zingwe zatsopano namumanga nazo. Kenaka anati “Amuna anga, Afilisti aja afikanso!” Nthawi iyi nʼkuti anthu omubisalira aja ali mʼchipinda chamʼkati. Koma iye anadulanso zingwe mʼmanja ake ngati akudula ulusi wa thonje.
13 Ndipo Delila anati kwa Samsoni, “Mpaka tsopano mwakhala mukundipusitsa ndi kumandiwuza zabodza. Chonde, tandiwuzani mmene munthu angakumangireni.”
Iye anayankha kuti, “Ngati njombi zisanu ndi ziwiri za kumutu kwanga utazilukira mu cholukira nsalu ndi kuchimanga molimbika ndi chikhomo, ndidzasanduka wofowoka ndi kukhala wofanana ndi munthu wina aliyense.” 14 Choncho iye akugona, Delila analukira njombi za ku mutu kwa Samsoni mu cholukira nsalu nachimanga molimba ndi chikhomo.
Pambuyo pake anati kwa Samsoni, “Amuna anga, Afilisti aja abwera!” Tsono iye anadzuka ku tulo, nazula chikhomo chija ndipo njombi zinachoka mu cholukira chija.
15 Tsono mkaziyo ananenanso kwa iye kuti, “Munganene bwanji kuti mumandikonda pamene mtima wanu suli pa ine? Aka ndi kachitatu mukundipusitsa ndipo simunandiwuze pamene pagona mphamvu zanu zoopsazi.” 16 Tsono popeza anamupanikiza ndi mawu ake tsiku ndi tsiku ndi kumukakamiza, mtima wa Samsoni unatopa pafupi kufa.
17 Choncho anamuwuza mkaziyo zonse za mu mtima mwake nati “Lumo silinapitepo pa mutu wanga chifukwa ndakhala ndili Mnaziri wopatulikira Mulungu chibadwire. Ngati nditametedwa mphamvu zanga zidzandichokera, ndidzasanduka wofowoka ndipo ndidzafanana ndi munthu wina aliyense.”
18 Delila ataona kuti wamuwuza zonse za mu mtima mwake anatumiza uthenga kukayitana akuluakulu a Afilisti nati, “Bweraninso kamodzi kano kokha popeza wandiwululira zonse za mu mtima mwake.” Choncho akuluakulu a Afilisti aja anabwera ndi ndalama za siliva mʼmanja mwawo. 19 Mkazi uja anagoneka Samsoni pa miyendo yake. Kenaka anayitana munthu wina ndipo anadzameta Samsoni njombi zisanu ndi ziwiri zija kumutu kwake. Pamenepo anayamba kufowoka, ndipo mphamvu zake zinamuchokera.
20 Pambuyo pake mkaziyo anamuyitana kuti, “Amuna anga, Afilisti aja abwera!”
Iye anadzuka kutuloko, naganiza kuti, “Ndituluka monga ndimachitira nthawi zonse ndi kudzimasula.” Koma sanadziwe kuti Yehova wamuchokera.
21 Afilisti anamugwira ndipo anamukolowola maso. Kenaka anapita naye ku Gaza atamumanga ndi maunyolo achitsulo. Kumeneko anakhala wa pamphero mu ndende. 22 Pambuyo pake tsitsi la pa mutu wake, monga linametedwa, linayambanso kumera.
Imfa ya Samsoni
23 Tsono atsogoleri a Afilisti anasonkhana kuti adzapereke nsembe yayikulu kwa Dagoni mulungu wawo ndi kukondwerera popeza ankanena kuti, “Mulungu wathu wapereka Samsoni mdani wathu mʼmanja mwathu.”
24 Anthuwo atamuona Samsoni, anayamba kutamanda mulungu wawo popeza ankanena kuti,
“Mulungu wathu wapereka mdani wathu
mʼmanja mwathu,
ndiye amene anawononga dziko lathu,
napha anthu athu ambirimbiri.”
25 Ali mʼkati mosangalala, anthu aja amafuwula kuti, “Mutulutseni Samsoniyo kuti adzatisangalatse.” Choncho anamutulutsadi Samsoni mʼndende, ndipo anawasangalatsadi.
Ndipo anamuyimiritsa pakati pa mizati. 26 Pambuyo pake Samsoni anawuza mnyamata amene anamugwira dzanja kuti, “Ndilole kuti ndikhudze mizati imene yachirikiza nyumba yonseyi kuti ndiyitsamire.” 27 Nthawi imeneyi nʼkuti nyumbayo ili yodzaza ndi anthu aamuna ndi aakazi. Olamulira onse a Afilisti anali momwemo, ndipo pamwamba pa nyumbayo panali anthu 3,000 aamuna ndi aakazi amene amaonerera Samsoni akusewera. 28 Tsono Samsoni anapemphera kwa Yehova kuti, “Inu Yehova Ambuye anga, ndikumbukireni. Chonde ndilimbitseni nthawi yokha ino, inu Yehova, kuti ndiwabwezere Afilistiwa chifukwa cha maso anga awiri.” 29 Choncho Samsoni anagwira mizati iwiri yapakati imene inkachirikiza nyumbayo. Anayitsamira ndi mphamvu zake zonse, dzanja lake lamanja ku mzati wina ndi dzanja lamanzere ku mzati winanso, 30 ndipo Samsoni anati, “Ndife nawo pamodzi!” Nthawi yomweyo anakankha ndi mphamvu zake zonse ndipo mizati inagwera atsogoleri a Afilisti ndi anthu onse anali mʼmenemo. Tsono chiwerengero cha anthu amene Samsoni anapha pa nthawi ya imfa yake chinaposa cha iwo amene anawapha akanali ndi moyo.
31 Kenaka abale ake ndi onse a pa banja la abambo ake anapita kukamutenga. Ndipo anakamuyika pakati pa Zora ndi Esitaoli mʼmanda a abambo ake, Manowa. Iye anatsogolera Israeli kwa zaka makumi awiri.
