^5 (A)Thus the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. ⁶ And ^(B)they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons; and they served their gods.

Othniel

⁷ So the children of Israel did ^(C)evil in the sight of the Lord. They ^(D)forgot the Lord their God, and served the Baals and ^[a]Asherahs.

Ehud

^12 (A)And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord strengthened ^(B)Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the Lord. ¹³ Then he gathered to himself the people of Ammon and ^(C)Amalek, went and ^[a]defeated Israel, and took possession of ^(D)the City of Palms. ¹⁴ So the children of Israel ^(E)served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

Deborah

4 When Ehud was dead, ^(A)the children of Israel again did ^(B)evil in the sight of the Lord. ² So the Lord ^(C)sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in ^(D)Hazor. The commander of his army was ^(E)Sisera, who dwelt in ^(F)Harosheth Hagoyim. ³ And the children of Israel cried out to the Lord; for Jabin had nine hundred ^(G)chariots of iron, and for twenty years ^(H)he had harshly oppressed the children of Israel.

Midianites Oppress Israel

6 Then the children of Israel did ^(A)evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord delivered them into the hand of ^(B)Midian for seven years, ² and the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of the Midianites, the children of Israel made for themselves the dens, ^(C)the caves, and the strongholds which are in the mountains.

³³ So it was, ^(A)as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel again ^(B)played the harlot with the Baals, ^(C)and made Baal-Berith their god. ³⁴ Thus the children of Israel ^(D)did not remember the Lord their God, who had delivered them from the hands of all their enemies on every side; ^35 (E)nor did they show kindness to the house of Jerubbaal (Gideon) in accordance with the good he had done for Israel.

Israel Oppressed Again

⁶ Then ^(A)the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, and ^(B)served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, ^(C)the gods of Syria, the gods of ^(D)Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the people of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the Lord and did not serve Him. ⁷ So the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and He ^(E)sold them into the hands of the ^(F)Philistines and into the hands of the people of ^(G)Ammon. ⁸ From that year they ^[a]harassed and oppressed the children of Israel for eighteen years—all the children of Israel who were on the other side of the Jordan in the ^(H)land of the Amorites, in Gilead. ⁹ Moreover the people of Ammon crossed over the Jordan to fight against Judah also, against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.
