¹⁵ Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the Lord was against them^(A) to defeat them, just as he had sworn to them. They were in great distress.^(B)

Israel Exiled Because of Sin

⁷ All this took place because the Israelites had sinned^(A) against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt^(B) from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods

¹² Therefore this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such disaster^(A) on Jerusalem and Judah that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.^(B)
