Micah’s Idolatry

17 Now there was a man from the mountains of Ephraim, whose name was ^(A)Micah. ² And he said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you, and on which you ^(B)put a curse, even saying it in my ears—here is the silver with me; I took it.”

And his mother said, ^(C)“May you be blessed by the Lord, my son!” ³ So when he had returned the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, “I had wholly dedicated the silver from my hand to the Lord for my son, to ^(D)make a carved image and a molded image; now therefore, I will return it to you.” ⁴ Thus he returned the silver to his mother. Then his mother ^(E)took two hundred shekels of silver and gave them to the silversmith, and he made it into a carved image and a molded image; and they were in the house of Micah.

⁵ The man Micah had a ^(F)shrine, and made an ^(G)ephod and ^(H)household^[a] idols; and he consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest. ^6 (I)In those days there was no king in Israel; ^(J)everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

⁷ Now there was a young man from ^(K)Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah; he was a Levite, and ^(L)was staying there. ⁸ The man departed from the city of Bethlehem in Judah to stay wherever he could find a place. Then he came to the mountains of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, as he journeyed. ⁹ And Micah said to him, “Where do you come from?”

So he said to him, “I am a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, and I am on my way to find a place to stay.”

¹⁰ Micah said to him, “Dwell with me, ^(M)and be a ^(N)father and a priest to me, and I will give you ten shekels of silver per year, a suit of clothes, and your sustenance.” So the Levite went in. ¹¹ Then the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man became like one of his sons to him. ¹² So Micah ^(O)consecrated^[b] the Levite, and the young man ^(P)became his priest, and lived in the house of Micah. ¹³ Then Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will be good to me, since I have a Levite as ^(Q)priest!”

The Command to Build God’s House^(A)

1 In ^(B)the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by ^(C)Haggai the prophet to ^(D)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to ^(E)Joshua the son of ^(F)Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, ² “Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.” ’ ”

³ Then the word of the Lord ^(G)came by Haggai the prophet, saying, ⁴ “Is it ^(H)time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this ^[a]temple to lie in ruins?” ⁵ Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: ^(I)“Consider your ways!

⁷ Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! ⁸ Go up to the ^(L)mountains and bring wood and build the ^[b]temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the Lord. ^9 (M)“You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, ^(N)I blew it away. Why?” says the Lord of hosts. “Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house. ¹⁰ Therefore ^(O)the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit. ¹¹ For I ^(P)called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on ^(Q)all the labor of your hands.”

The Seventy Sent Out

10 After these things the Lord appointed ^[a]seventy others also, and ^(A)sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. ² Then He said to them, ^(B)“The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore ^(C)pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. ³ Go your way; ^(D)behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. ^4 (E)Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and ^(F)greet no one along the road. ^5 (G)But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ ⁶ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. ^7 (H)And remain in the same house, ^(I)eating and drinking such things as they give, for ^(J)the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. ⁸ Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. ^9 (K)And heal the sick there, and say to them, ^(L)‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ ¹⁰ But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, ^11 (M)‘The very dust of your city which clings to ^[b]us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’ ^12 [c]But I say to you that ^(N)it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.

Woe to the Impenitent Cities^(O)

^13 (P)“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! ^(Q)For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. ^15 (R)And you, Capernaum, ^[d]who are ^(S)exalted to heaven, ^(T)will be brought down to Hades. ^16 (U)He who hears you hears Me, ^(V)he who rejects you rejects Me, and ^(W)he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

The Seventy Return with Joy

¹⁷ Then ^(X)the ^[e]seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

¹⁸ And He said to them, ^(Y)“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, ^(Z)I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ²⁰ Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but ^[f]rather rejoice because ^(AA)your names are written in heaven.”

Jesus Rejoices in the Spirit^(AB)

^21 (AC)In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. ^22 (AD)All^[g] things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and ^(AE)no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.”

²³ Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, ^(AF)“Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; ²⁴ for I tell you ^(AG)that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.”

The Parable of the Good Samaritan^(AH)

²⁵ And behold, a certain ^[h]lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, ^(AI)“Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

²⁶ He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”

²⁷ So he answered and said, ^(AJ)“ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ^(AK)‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

²⁸ And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and ^(AL)you will live.”

²⁹ But he, wanting to ^(AM)justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

³⁰ Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among ^[i]thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹ Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, ^(AN)he passed by on the other side. ³² Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. ³³ But a certain ^(AO)Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had ^(AP)compassion. ³⁴ So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ³⁵ On the next day, ^[j]when he departed, he took out two ^(AQ)denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ ³⁶ So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”

³⁷ And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”

Then Jesus said to him, ^(AR)“Go and do likewise.”

Mary and Martha Worship and Serve

³⁸ Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named ^(AS)Martha welcomed Him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, ^(AT)who also ^(AU)sat at ^[k]Jesus’ feet and heard His word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

⁴¹ And ^[l]Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. ⁴² But ^(AV)one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

² To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who ^(D)are ^[a]sanctified in Christ Jesus, ^(E)called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ ^(F)our Lord, ^(G)both theirs and ours:

Spiritual Gifts at Corinth

^4 (I)I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, ⁵ that you were enriched in everything by Him ^(J)in all ^[b]utterance and all knowledge, ⁶ even as ^(K)the testimony of Christ was confirmed ^[c]in you, ⁷ so that you come short in no gift, eagerly ^(L)waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, ^8 (M)who will also confirm you to the end, ^(N)that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. ^9 (O)God is faithful, by whom you were called into ^(P)the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
