Micah and the Levite

17 There was a man of ^(A)the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Micah. ²And he said to his mother, “The 1,100 pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse, and also spoke it in my ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it.” And his mother said, ^(B)“Blessed be my son by the Lord.” ³And he restored the 1,100 pieces of silver to his mother. And his mother said, “I dedicate the silver to the Lord from my hand for my son, to make ^(C)a carved image and ^(D)a metal image. Now therefore I will restore it to you.” ⁴So when he restored the money to his mother, his mother ^(E)took 200 pieces of silver and gave it to the silversmith, who made it into a carved image and a metal image. And it was in the house of Micah. ⁵And the man Micah had a shrine, and he made ^(F)an ephod and ^(G)household gods, and ^(H)ordained^[a] one of his sons, who became his priest. ⁶^(I)In those days there was no king in Israel. ^(J)Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

⁷Now there was a young man of ^(K)Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there. ⁸And the man departed from the town of Bethlehem in Judah to sojourn where he could find a place. And as he journeyed, he came to ^(L)the hill country of Ephraim to the house of Micah. ⁹And Micah said to him, “Where do you come from?” And he said to him, “I am a Levite of Bethlehem in Judah, and I am going to sojourn where I may find a place.” ¹⁰And Micah said to him, “Stay with me, and be to me ^(M)a father and a priest, and I will give you ten pieces of silver a year and a suit of clothes and your living.” And the Levite went in. ¹¹And the Levite ^(N)was content to dwell with the man, and the young man became to him like one of his sons. ¹²And Micah ^(O)ordained the Levite, and the young man ^(P)became his priest, and was in the house of Micah. ¹³Then Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will prosper me, because I have a Levite as priest.”

25 These also are ^(A)proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied.

²It is the glory of God to ^(B)conceal things,
    but the glory of kings is to ^(C)search things out.
³As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth,
    so the heart of kings is ^(D)unsearchable.
⁴Take away ^(E)the dross from the silver,
    and ^(F)the smith has material for a vessel;
⁵take away ^(G)the wicked from the presence of the king,
    and his ^(H)throne will be established in righteousness.
⁶Do not put yourself forward in the king's presence
    or stand in the place of the great,
⁷for ^(I)it is better to be told, “Come up here,”
    than to be put lower in the presence of a noble.

What your eyes have seen
⁸    ^(J)do not hastily bring into court,^[a]
for^[b] what will you do in the end,
    when your neighbor puts you to shame?
⁹^(K)Argue your case with your neighbor himself,
    and do not reveal another's secret,
¹⁰lest he who hears you bring shame upon you,
    and your ill repute have no end.

¹¹^(L)A word fitly spoken
    is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
¹²Like ^(M)a gold ring or an ornament of gold
    is a wise reprover to ^(N)a listening ear.
¹³Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest
    is ^(O)a faithful messenger to those who send him;
    he refreshes the soul of his masters.
¹⁴Like ^(P)clouds and wind without rain
    is a man who ^(Q)boasts of a gift he does not give.

¹⁵With ^(R)patience a ruler may be persuaded,
    and a soft tongue will break a bone.
¹⁶If you have ^(S)found honey, eat ^(T)only enough for you,
    lest you have your fill of it and vomit it.
¹⁷Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house,
    lest he have his fill of you and hate you.
¹⁸A man who ^(U)bears false witness against his neighbor
    is like a war club, or ^(V)a sword, or a sharp arrow.
¹⁹Trusting in a treacherous man in time of trouble
    is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips.
²⁰Whoever ^(W)sings songs to a heavy heart
    is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day,
    and like vinegar on soda.
²¹^(X)If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat,
    and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,
²²for you will heap ^(Y)burning coals on his head,
    and the Lord will reward you.
²³The north wind brings forth rain,
    and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.
²⁴^(Z)It is better to live in a corner of the housetop
    than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.
²⁵Like cold water to ^(AA)a thirsty soul,
    so is ^(AB)good news from a far country.
²⁶Like ^(AC)a muddied spring or a polluted fountain
    is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
²⁷It is ^(AD)not good to eat much honey,
    nor is it glorious to ^(AE)seek one's own glory.^[c]
²⁸A man ^(AF)without self-control
    is like ^(AG)a city broken into and left without walls.

Revelation 20

The Thousand Years

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, ^(A)holding in his hand the key to ^(B)the bottomless pit^[a] and a great chain. ²And he seized ^(C)the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and ^(D)bound him for a thousand years, ³and threw him into ^(E)the pit, and shut it and ^(F)sealed it over him, so that ^(G)he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.

⁴Then I saw ^(H)thrones, and ^(I)seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw ^(J)the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those ^(K)who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. ^(L)They came to life and ^(M)reigned with Christ for a thousand years. ⁵The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. ⁶^(N)Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such ^(O)the second death has no power, but they will be ^(P)priests of God and of Christ, and they ^(Q)will reign with him for a thousand years.

The Defeat of Satan

⁷And when the thousand years are ended, ^(R)Satan will be released from his prison ⁸and will come out ^(S)to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, ^(T)Gog and Magog, ^(U)to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. ⁹And ^(V)they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded ^(W)the camp of the saints and ^(X)the beloved city, but ^(Y)fire came down from heaven^[b] and consumed them, ¹⁰and the devil ^(Z)who had deceived them was ^(AA)thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where ^(AB)the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Judgment Before the Great White Throne

¹¹Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence ^(AC)earth and sky fled away, and ^(AD)no place was found for them. ¹²And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and ^(AE)books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is ^(AF)the book of life. And ^(AG)the dead were judged by what was written in the books, ^(AH)according to what they had done. ¹³And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, ^(AI)Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, ^(AJ)according to what they had done. ¹⁴Then ^(AK)Death and Hades ^(AL)were thrown into the lake of fire. This is ^(AM)the second death, the lake of fire. ¹⁵And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, ^(AN)he was thrown into the lake of fire.
