The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “Even so, we have turned to you. Come with us and fight the Ammonites. You will be ruler over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you bring me back to wage war against the Ammonites, and the Lord gives them to me, then I will be your ruler.”

10 The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “May the Lord be a witness between us if we do not act according to your word.”

(A)And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “That is why we have (B)turned[a] again to you now, that you may go with us and fight against the people of Ammon, and be (C)our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you take me back home to fight against the people of Ammon, and the Lord delivers them to me, shall I be your head?”

10 And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, (D)“The Lord will be a witness between us, if we do not do according to your words.”
