Tola, Israel’s Sixth Judge
10 A man from the tribe of Issachar, Puah’s son Tola, grandson of Dodo, arose to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the mountainous region[a] of Ephraim. 2 He governed Israel for 23 years and then died. He was buried in Shamir.
Jair, Israel’s Seventh Judge
3 After him, Jair the Gileadite arose and governed Israel for 22 years. 4 His 30 sons rode on 30 donkeys, controlling 30 cities in the territory of Gilead named Havvoth-jair[b] to this day. 5 Jair died and was buried in Kamon.
Israel Descends into Apostasy
6 Later on, the Israelis again practiced what the Lord considered to be evil by serving the Baals, the stars, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the descendants of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines. In doing so, they ignored[c] the Lord and wouldn’t serve him. 7 In his burning anger against Israel, he sold them into domination by the Philistines and the Ammonites, 8 who trampled and troubled the Israelis during that year—eighteen years for the Israelis who lived east of the Jordan River in Gilead, the land occupied by[d] the Amorites. 9 The Ammonites crossed the Jordan River to fight against the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim. As a result, Israel was deeply distressed. 10 Then the Israelis cried out to the Lord and told him,[e] “We have sinned against you because we have abandoned our God to serve the Baals.”
11 The Lord replied to the Israelis, “Aren’t you away from the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, and the Philistines? 12 And when the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites harassed you, you cried out to me, and I delivered you from under their domination. 13 But you have abandoned me and served other gods. Therefore I will no longer be delivering you. 14 Go and cry out to the gods that you have chosen for yourselves. Let them deliver you in your time of trouble.”
15 The Israelis replied to the Lord, “We have sinned, so do to us anything that’s right to do in your opinion, just please deliver us right now.” 16 When they put away their foreign gods and served the Lord, he brought Israel’s misery to an end. 17 The Ammonites were summoned and they encamped in Gilead. The Israelis assembled together and encamped in Mizpah. 18 The people and Gilead’s officials inquired among themselves, “Who will begin our attack against the Ammonites? He’ll become head over everyone who lives in Gilead.”

Jaír, juez en Israel
3 Después de él se levantó Jaír el galadita, quien juzgó a Israel durante veintidós años. 4 Este tuvo treinta hijos que montaban sobre treinta asnos, y tenían treinta villas que se llaman Havot-jaír hasta el día de hoy, las cuales están en la tierra de Galaad. 5 Entonces Jaír murió y fue sepultado en Camón.
Los amonitas oprimen a Israel
6 Los hijos de Israel volvieron a hacer lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR y sirvieron a los Baales, a las Astartes, a los dioses de Siria, a los dioses de Sidón, a los dioses de Moab, a los dioses de los hijos de Amón y a los dioses de los filisteos. Abandonaron al SEÑOR y no le sirvieron.
7 La ira del SEÑOR se encendió contra Israel, y él los entregó en mano de los filisteos y en mano de los hijos de Amón. 8 Y en aquel tiempo, estos castigaron y oprimieron durante dieciocho años a los hijos de Israel, a todos los hijos de Israel que estaban al otro lado del Jordán, en la tierra de los amorreos que está en Galaad. 9 Luego los hijos de Amón cruzaron el Jordán para hacer también la guerra contra Judá, contra Benjamín y contra la casa de Efraín; e Israel fue afligido en gran manera. 10 Entonces los hijos de Israel clamaron al SEÑOR diciendo:
—Hemos pecado contra ti, porque hemos abandonado a nuestro Dios y hemos servido a los Baales.
11 Y el SEÑOR respondió a los hijos de Israel:
—Cuando eran oprimidos por Egipto, por los amorreos, por los amonitas, por los filisteos, 12 por los de Sidón, por los de Amalec y por los de Maón[a], y clamaron a mí, ¿no los libré yo de su mano? 13 Pero ustedes me han abandonado y han servido a otros dioses. Por eso, no los libraré más. 14 ¡Vayan y clamen a los dioses que han elegido para ustedes! Que ellos los libren en el tiempo de su aflicción.
15 Y los hijos de Israel respondieron al SEÑOR:
—Hemos pecado. Haz tú con nosotros todo lo que te parezca bien. Pero, por favor, líbranos en este día.
16 Entonces quitaron de en medio de ellos los dioses extraños y sirvieron al SEÑOR. Y él no pudo soportar más la aflicción de Israel.
Jefté se levanta como juez
17 Entonces los hijos de Amón fueron convocados y acamparon en Galaad. Asimismo, se reunieron los hijos de Israel y acamparon en Mizpa. 18 Y los jefes del pueblo de Galaad se dijeron unos a otros:
—Cualquiera que sea el hombre que comience a combatir contra los hijos de Amón, él será el caudillo de todos los habitantes de Galaad.

Jair
3 After him arose Jair, a Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty-two years. 4 Now he had thirty sons who (B)rode on thirty donkeys; they also had thirty towns, (C)which are called [a]“Havoth Jair” to this day, which are in the land of Gilead. 5 And Jair died and was buried in Camon.
Israel Oppressed Again
6 Then (D)the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, and (E)served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, (F)the gods of Syria, the gods of (G)Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the people of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the Lord and did not serve Him. 7 So the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel; and He (H)sold them into the hands of the (I)Philistines and into the hands of the people of (J)Ammon. 8 From that year they [b]harassed and oppressed the children of Israel for eighteen years—all the children of Israel who were on the other side of the Jordan in the (K)land of the Amorites, in Gilead. 9 Moreover the people of Ammon crossed over the Jordan to fight against Judah also, against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.
10 (L)And the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have (M)sinned against You, because we have both forsaken our God and served the Baals!”
11 So the Lord said to the children of Israel, “Did I not deliver you (N)from the Egyptians and (O)from the Amorites and (P)from the people of Ammon and (Q)from the Philistines? 12 Also (R)the Sidonians (S)and Amalekites and [c]Maonites (T)oppressed you; and you cried out to Me, and I delivered you from their hand. 13 (U)Yet you have forsaken Me and served other gods. Therefore I will deliver you no more. 14 “Go and (V)cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your time of distress.”
15 And the children of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned! (W)Do to us whatever seems best to You; only deliver us this day, we pray.” 16 (X)So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord. And (Y)His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel.
17 Then the people of Ammon gathered together and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled together and encamped in (Z)Mizpah. 18 And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another, “Who is the man who will begin the fight against the people of Ammon? He shall (AA)be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
