¹⁶ Dividing the three hundred men^(A) into three companies,^(B) he placed trumpets^(C) and empty jars^(D) in the hands of all of them, with torches^(E) inside.

²⁰ The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars. Grasping the torches^(A) in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, “A sword^(B) for the Lord and for Gideon!”

⁴ So he went out and caught three hundred foxes^(A) and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch^(B) to every pair of tails,

⁵ lit the torches^(A) and let the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks^(B) and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves.
