The First Judge Frees Israel
9 But the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord, and the Lord raised up a deliverer for the sons of Israel to set them free, (A)Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. 10 And (B)the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel. When he went to war, the Lord handed over to him Cushan-rishathaim king of [a]Mesopotamia, so that [b]he prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim. 11 Then the land was at rest for forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

Judges 3:9-11
New International Version
9 But when they cried out(A) to the Lord, he raised up for them a deliverer,(B) Othniel(C) son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, who saved them. 10 The Spirit of the Lord came on him,(D) so that he became Israel’s judge[a] and went to war. The Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim(E) king of Aram(F) into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him. 11 So the land had peace(G) for forty years,(H) until Othniel son of Kenaz(I) died.
