4 After a time the Ammonites made war against Israel. 5 And when the Ammonites made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to bring Jephthah from the land of Tob.

3 So Jephthah fled from his brothers and settled in the land of Tob,(A) where a gang of scoundrels(B) gathered around him and followed him.

4 Some time later, when the Ammonites(C) were fighting against Israel, 5 the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob.
