16 but when they came up from Egypt, Israel went through the wilderness (A)to the Red Sea and (B)came to Kadesh. 17 (C)Israel then sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please let us pass through your land’, (D)but the king of Edom would not listen. And they sent also to the king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel (E)remained at Kadesh.

New International Version
16 But when they came up out of Egypt, Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea[a](A) and on to Kadesh.(B) 17 Then Israel sent messengers(C) to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Give us permission to go through your country,’(D) but the king of Edom would not listen. They sent also to the king of Moab,(E) and he refused.(F) So Israel stayed at Kadesh.
