⁶ And all the men of Shechem gathered together, all of Beth Millo, and they went and made Abimelech king beside the terebinth tree at the pillar that was in Shechem.

⁹ Then David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it ^(A)the City of David. And David built all around from ^[a]the Millo and inward.

²⁰ And ^(A)his servants arose and formed a conspiracy, and killed Joash in the house of ^[a]the Millo, which goes down to Silla.

Jeroboam’s Gold Calves

²⁵ Then Jeroboam ^(A)built^[a] Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and dwelt there. Also he went out from there and built ^(B)Penuel.

²⁰ Now it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had come back, they sent for him and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all ^(A)Israel. There was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah ^(B)only.

The Revolt Against Rehoboam^(A)

12 And ^(B)Rehoboam went to ^(C)Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king.

²⁶ Then Joshua ^(A)wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. And he took ^(B)a large stone, and ^(C)set it up there ^(D)under the oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.
