⁶ Then all the citizens of Shechem and Beth Millo^(A) gathered beside the great tree^(B) at the pillar in Shechem to crown Abimelek king.

⁹ David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces^[a](A) inward.

²⁰ His officials^(A) conspired against him and assassinated^(B) him at Beth Millo,^(C) on the road down to Silla.
