⁵ He went to his father’s home in Ophrah and on one stone murdered his seventy brothers,^(A) the sons of Jerub-Baal. But Jotham,^(B) the youngest son of Jerub-Baal, escaped by hiding.^(C)

Athaliah and Joash^(A)

11 When Athaliah^(B) the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family. ² But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram^[a] and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash^(C) son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes, who were about to be murdered. She put him and his nurse in a bedroom to hide him from Athaliah; so he was not killed.^(D)

Jehoram King of Judah^(A)

⁴ When Jehoram established^(B) himself firmly over his father’s kingdom, he put all his brothers^(C) to the sword along with some of the officials of Israel.

²⁴ So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called^(A) it The Lord Is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah^(B) of the Abiezrites.

²⁰ and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”^(A)
