    they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.

¹¹ If they say, “Come along with us;
    let’s lie in wait^(A) for innocent blood,
    let’s ambush some harmless soul;
¹² let’s swallow^(B) them alive, like the grave,
    and whole, like those who go down to the pit;^(C)
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
    and fill our houses with plunder;
¹⁴ cast lots with us;
    we will all share the loot^(D)”—
¹⁵ my son, do not go along with them,
    do not set foot^(E) on their paths;^(F)
16 for their feet rush into evil,^(G)
    they are swift to shed blood.^(H)

⁴ Even on their beds they plot evil;^(A)
    they commit themselves to a sinful course^(B)
    and do not reject what is wrong.^(C)

¹⁴ When daylight is gone, the murderer rises up,
    kills^(A) the poor and needy,^(B)
    and in the night steals forth like a thief.^(C)
15 The eye of the adulterer^(D) watches for dusk;^(E)
    he thinks, ‘No eye will see me,’^(F)
    and he keeps his face concealed.
¹⁶ In the dark, thieves break into houses,^(G)
    but by day they shut themselves in;
    they want nothing to do with the light.^(H)
17 For all of them, midnight is their morning;
    they make friends with the terrors^(I) of darkness.^(J)
