¹⁵ And the bramble said to the trees,
    ‘If in good faith you are anointing me king over you,
        then come and take refuge in my shade,
    but if not, let fire come out of the bramble
        and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’^(A)

¹⁰ Let burning coals fall on them!
    Let them be flung into pits, no more to rise!^(A)

¹ Why do you boast, O mighty one,
    of mischief done against the godly?^[a]
All day long^{(A) 2}     you are plotting destruction.
Your tongue is like a sharp razor,
    you worker of treachery.^(B)
3 You love evil more than good
    and lying more than speaking the truth. Selah^(C)
4 You love all words that devour,
    O deceitful tongue.^(D)

⁴ Repay them according to their work
    and according to the evil of their deeds;
repay them according to the work of their hands;
    render them their due reward.^(A)

⁹ You will make them like a fiery furnace
    when you appear.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and fire will consume them.^(A)
10 You will destroy their offspring from the earth
    and their children from among humankind.^(B)
