²⁰ But if not, ^(A)let fire come out from Abimelech and devour the leaders of Shechem and Beth-millo; and let fire come out from the leaders of Shechem and from Beth-millo and devour Abimelech.”

¹⁵ And the bramble said to the trees, ‘If in good faith you are anointing me king over you, then come and ^(A)take refuge in my shade, but if not, ^(B)let fire come out of the bramble and devour ^(C)the cedars of Lebanon.’

²² And when they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ^(A)an ambush against the men of ^(B)Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed. ²³ For the men of Ammon and Moab rose against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, devoting them to destruction, and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, ^(C)they all helped to destroy one another.

^56 (A)Thus God returned the evil of Abimelech, which he committed against his father in killing his seventy brothers. ⁵⁷ And God also made all the evil of the men of Shechem return on their heads, and upon them came ^(B)the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
