Abimelech’s Conspiracy

9 Then Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem, to ^(A)his mother’s brothers, and spoke with them and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,

^31 (A)And his concubine who was in Shechem also bore him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.

Jeremiah Persecuted

¹⁸ Then they said, ^(A)“Come and let us devise plans against Jeremiah; ^(B)for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us attack him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.”

²⁰ Now it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had come back, they sent for him and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all ^(A)Israel. There was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah ^(B)only.

³ that they sent and called him. Then Jeroboam and the whole assembly of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

The Revolt Against Rehoboam^(A)

12 And ^(B)Rehoboam went to ^(C)Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king.

⁶ In this manner Absalom acted toward all Israel who came to the king for judgment. ^(A)So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

² And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he ^(A)took her and lay with her, and violated her.

Jacob Comes to Canaan

¹⁸ Then Jacob came ^[a]safely to ^(A)the city of ^(B)Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city.
