⁵ So he said to the people of Succoth, “Please give some loaves of bread to my followers, for they are exhausted, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”^(A)

¹⁷ But Jacob journeyed to Succoth^[a] and built himself a house and made booths for his cattle; therefore the place is called Succoth.^(A)

⁶ they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on in a manner worthy of God,^{(A) 7} for they began their journey for the sake of Christ,^[a] accepting no support from nonbelievers.^{[b](B) 8} Therefore we ought to support such people, so that we may become coworkers with the truth.

²⁸ brought beds, basins, and earthen vessels, wheat, barley, meal, parched grain, beans and lentils,^{[a] 29} honey and curds, sheep, and cheese from the herd, for David and the people with him to eat, for they said, “The troops are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness.”^(A)

¹⁸ Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves, two skins of wine, five sheep ready dressed, five measures of parched grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs. She loaded them on donkeys^(A)

⁴ because they did not meet you with food and water on your journey out of Egypt and because they hired against you Balaam son of Beor, from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.

¹⁸ And King Melchizedek of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High.^[a](A)
