39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request.(A) Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.”

32 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more.(A) What if only ten can be found there?”

He answered, “For the sake of ten,(B) I will not destroy it.”

When I came, why was there no one?
When I called, why was there no one to answer?(A)
Was my arm too short(B) to deliver you?
Do I lack the strength(C) to rescue you?
By a mere rebuke(D) I dry up the sea,(E)
    I turn rivers into a desert;(F)
their fish rot for lack of water
    and die of thirst.

12 But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles,(A) how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring!

13 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles,(B) I take pride in my ministry 14 in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy(C) and save(D) some of them. 15 For if their rejection brought reconciliation(E) to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?(F) 16 If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits(G) is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.

17 If some of the branches have been broken off,(H) and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others(I) and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, 18 do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.(J) 19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith.(K) Do not be arrogant,(L) but tremble.(M) 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

19 See, I am doing a new thing!(A)
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness(B)
    and streams in the wasteland.(C)
20 The wild animals(D) honor me,
    the jackals(E) and the owls,
because I provide water(F) in the wilderness

Then will the lame(A) leap like a deer,(B)

Water will gush forth in the wilderness

The burning sand will become a pool,
    the thirsty ground(F) bubbling springs.(G)
In the haunts where jackals(H) once lay,
grass and reeds(I) and papyrus will grow.
