    but the lowly in spirit gain honor.^(B)

⁴⁰ he who pours contempt on nobles^(A)
    made them wander in a trackless waste.^(B)

³⁵ I have seen a wicked and ruthless man
    flourishing^(A) like a luxuriant native tree,
³⁶ but he soon passed away and was no more;
    though I looked for him, he could not be found.^(B)

¹¹ Unleash the fury of your wrath,^(A)
    look at all who are proud and bring them low,^(B)
12 look at all who are proud^(C) and humble them,^(D)
    crush^(E) the wicked where they stand.

⁷ The vigor^(A) of his step is weakened;^(B)
    his own schemes^(C) throw him down.^(D)
8 His feet thrust him into a net;^(E)
    he wanders into its mesh.
⁹ A trap seizes him by the heel;
    a snare^(F) holds him fast.^(G)
10 A noose^(H) is hidden for him on the ground;
    a trap^(I) lies in his path.^(J)
11 Terrors^(K) startle him on every side^(L)
    and dog^(M) his every step.
¹² Calamity^(N) is hungry^(O) for him;
    disaster^(P) is ready for him when he falls.^(Q)
