⁴ And they were left, that He might test Israel by them, to ^[a]know whether they would obey the commandments of the Lord, which He had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

¹⁹ For ^(A)there must also be factions among you, ^(B)that those who are approved may be ^[a]recognized among you.

The Nations Remaining in the Land

3 Now these are ^(A)the nations which the Lord left, that He might test Israel by them, that is, all who had not ^[a]known any of the wars in Canaan

²² so ^(A)that through them I may ^(B)test Israel, whether they will keep the ways of the Lord, to walk in them as their fathers kept them, or not.”

⁸ And of ^(A)Levi he said:

² And you shall remember that the Lord your God ^(A)led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and ^(B)test you, ^(C)to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

²⁵ So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. ^(A)When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.

There He ^(B)made a statute and an ^[a]ordinance for them, and there ^(C)He tested them,

⁹ The coming of the lawless one is ^(A)according to the working of Satan, with all power, ^(B)signs, and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all unrighteous deception among ^(C)those who perish, because they did not receive ^(D)the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And ^(E)for this reason God will send them strong delusion, ^(F)that they should believe the lie, ¹² that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but ^(G)had pleasure in unrighteousness.
