²⁸ “Follow me,” he ordered, “for the Lord has given Moab,^(A) your enemy, into your hands.^(B)” So they followed him down and took possession of the fords of the Jordan^(C) that led to Moab; they allowed no one to cross over.

⁵ The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan^(A) leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead asked him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he replied, “No,”

¹⁵ When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshiped.^(A) He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, “Get up! The Lord has given the Midianite camp into your hands.”^(B)

⁹ During that night the Lord said to Gideon, “Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands.^(A)

⁷ So the men set out in pursuit of the spies on the road that leads to the fords of the Jordan,^(A) and as soon as the pursuers^(B) had gone out, the gate was shut.

⁴⁷ All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword^(A) or spear that the Lord saves;^(B) for the battle^(C) is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

²⁴ Gideon sent messengers throughout the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against the Midianites and seize the waters of the Jordan^(A) ahead of them as far as Beth Barah.”

So all the men of Ephraim were called out and they seized the waters of the Jordan as far as Beth Barah.

¹⁷ “Watch me,” he told them. “Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do.

¹⁰ There Barak summoned^(A) Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men went up under his command. Deborah also went up with him.
