⁶ But the Israelites had compassion for Benjamin their kin and said, “One tribe is cut off from Israel this day.

¹⁵ The people had compassion on Benjamin because the Lord had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.^(A)

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

⁴¹ As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it,^{(A) 42} saying, “If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

²⁶ Then Abner called to Joab, “Is the sword to keep devouring forever? Do you not know that the end will be bitter? How long will it be before you order your people to turn from the pursuit of their kinsmen?”

^23 [a]The Israelites went up and wept before the Lord until the evening, and they inquired of the Lord, “Shall we again draw near to battle against our kinsfolk the Benjaminites?” And the Lord said, “Go up against them.”^(A)

³⁵ When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low; you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the Lord, and I cannot take back my vow.”^(A)
