⁹ But now this is what we will do to Gibeah: we will go up^[a] against it by lot.

²⁶ And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was added to the eleven apostles.

⁷ The sailors^[a] said to one another, “Come, let us cast lots, so that we may know on whose account this calamity has come upon us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.^(A)

Population of the City Increased

11 Now the leaders of the people lived in Jerusalem, and the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in the holy city Jerusalem, while nine-tenths remained in the other towns.^(A)

⁵ They organized them by lot, all alike, for there were officers of the sanctuary and officers of God among both the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar.^(A)

⁴¹ Then Saul said, “O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant today? If this guilt is in me or in my son Jonathan, O Lord God of Israel, give Urim, but if this guilt is in your people Israel,^[a] give Thummim.” And Jonathan and Saul were indicated by the lot, but the people were cleared.^{(A) 42} Then Saul said, “Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was taken.
