⁴⁸ And the men of Israel turned back against the people of Benjamin and struck them with the edge of the sword, the city, men and beasts and all that they found. And all the towns that they found they set on fire.

¹⁵ you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, devoting it to destruction,^[a] all who are in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword. ¹⁶ You shall gather all its spoil into the midst of its open square and ^(A)burn the city and all its spoil with fire, as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. It shall be a ^(B)heap forever. It shall not be built again. ^17 (C)None of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, ^(D)that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, ^(E)as he swore to your fathers,

⁶ For ^(A)Pekah the son of Remaliah killed 120,000 from Judah in one day, all of them men of valor, because they had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. ⁷ And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king's son and Azrikam the commander of the palace and Elkanah the next in authority to the king.

⁸ The men of Israel took captive 200,000 ^(B)of their relatives, women, sons, and daughters. They also took much spoil from them and brought the spoil to Samaria. ⁹ But a prophet of the Lord was there, whose name was Oded, and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria and said to them, “Behold, because the Lord, the God of your fathers, ^(C)was angry with Judah, he gave them into your hand, but you have killed them in a rage ^(D)that has reached up to heaven.

¹³ But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, not letting them go with him to battle, raided the cities of Judah, ^(A)from Samaria to Beth-horon, and struck down 3,000 people in them and took much spoil.
