²² in order ^(A)to test Israel by them, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the Lord as their fathers did, or not.”

² And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you ^(A)these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, ^(B)testing you ^(C)to know what was in your heart, ^(D)whether you would keep his commandments or not.

¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with ^(A)manna that your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, ^(B)to do you good in the end.

³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God ^(A)is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

The Sacrifice of Isaac

22 After these things ^(A)God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

² But ^(A)who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For ^(B)he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap. ³ He will sit ^(C)as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring ^(D)offerings in righteousness to the Lord.^[a]
