The Lord Raises Up Judges

^16 (A)Then the Lord raised up judges, ^(B)who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

²⁰ All this took about 450 years. And after that ^(A)he gave them judges until ^(B)Samuel the prophet.

¹¹ And the Lord sent ^(A)Jerubbaal ^(B)and Barak^{[a] (C)}and Jephthah and ^(D)Samuel and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you lived in safety.

^27 (A)Therefore you gave them into the hand of their enemies, who made them suffer. ^(B)And in the time of their suffering they cried out to you and you heard them from heaven, and according to your great mercies you gave them ^(C)saviors who saved them from the hand of their enemies.

¹⁵ Then the people of Israel ^(A)cried out to the Lord, and the Lord raised up for them ^(B)a deliverer, Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, ^(C)a left-handed man. The people of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.

¹⁴ And the Lord^[a] turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; ^(A)do not I send you?”

⁵ She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in ^(A)the hill country of Ephraim, and the people of Israel came up to her for judgment.

⁹ But when the people of Israel ^(A)cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a ^(B)deliverer for the people of Israel, who saved them, ^(C)Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. ^10 (D)The Spirit of the Lord was upon him, and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the Lord gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand. And his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim.
