⁶ Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord.^(A) They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths,^(B) and the gods of Aram,^(C) the gods of Sidon,^(D) the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites^(E) and the gods of the Philistines.^(F) And because the Israelites forsook the Lord^(G) and no longer served him,

⁷ The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord; they forgot the Lord^(A) their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.^(B)

²⁰ No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons,^(A) not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. ²¹ You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.^{(B) 22} Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy?^(C) Are we stronger than he?^(D)

⁵ For even if there are so-called gods,^(A) whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”),

¹³ The king also desecrated the high places that were east of Jerusalem on the south of the Hill of Corruption—the ones Solomon^(A) king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the vile goddess of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the vile god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable^(B) god of the people of Ammon.^(C)

³³ I will do this because they have^[a] forsaken me and worshiped^(A) Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Molek the god of the Ammonites, and have not walked^(B) in obedience to me, nor done what is right in my eyes, nor kept my decrees^(C) and laws as David, Solomon’s father, did.

⁵ He followed Ashtoreth^(A) the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek^(B) the detestable god of the Ammonites.
