¹⁵ They turned aside there to go in to lodge in Gibeah. And when he went in, he sat down in the open square of the city, for no one would ^(A)take them into his house to spend the night.

¹⁸ So he said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem in Judah toward the remote mountains of Ephraim; I am from there. I went to Bethlehem in Judah; now I am going to ^(A)the house of the Lord. But there is no one who will take me into his house,

^2 (A)Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing ^(B)some have unwittingly entertained angels.

⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

^35 (A)for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; ^(B)I was a stranger and you took Me in;

² And he said, “Here now, my lords, please ^(A)turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and ^(B)wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.”

And they said, ^(C)“No, but we will spend the night in the open square.”

³ But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. ^(D)Then he made them a feast, and baked ^(E)unleavened bread, and they ate.

^2 (A)So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; ^(B)and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, ³ and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. ⁴ Please let ^(C)a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. ⁵ And ^(D)I will bring a morsel of bread, that ^(E)you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, ^(F)inasmuch as you have come to your servant.”

They said, “Do as you have said.”

⁶ So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes.” ⁷ And Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it. ⁸ So ^(G)he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate.
