^14 (A)Then the five men who had gone to spy out the country of Laish answered and said to their brethren, “Do you know that ^(B)there are in these houses an ephod, household idols, a carved image, and a molded image? Now therefore, consider what you should do.”

⁵ The man Micah had a ^(A)shrine, and made an ^(B)ephod and ^(C)household^[a] idols; and he consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

³ While they were at the house of Micah, they recognized the voice of the young Levite. They turned aside and said to him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? What do you have here?”

⁴ He said to them, “Thus and so Micah did for me. He has ^(A)hired me, and I have become his priest.”

¹⁹ And when they say to you, ^(A)“Seek those who are mediums and wizards, ^(B)who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? Should they ^(C)seek the dead on behalf of the living? ^20 (D)To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because ^(E)there^[a] is no light in them.

²⁸ Then one of the people said, “Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food this day.’ ” And the people were faint.
